My friend and I have been attempting tunneling.  We think we have everything setup correctly but as the subject says...

I am running through a microwave link and he has the Verizon "Fusion" package.  Being that we are dealing with dynamic IPs we went to noip.com and got our domain names setup.  The DDNS updates have been setup.

First question is, will tunneling work with dynamic IPs?

In the "Tunnel Server" dialog it asks for the client node name.  My question is is this the mesh node or the router domain name?  I trying to figure out how it knows where the mesh node is if it only has the mesh node name. 

Help!

Yes. 

In the "Tunnel Server" dialog it asks for the client node name.  My question is is this the mesh node or the router domain name?  I trying to figure out how it knows where the mesh node is if it only has the mesh node name. 

mesh node name.  The "Server" doesn't care where the client is coming from.  The DNS name is configured on the CLIENT side to call INTO the server.


Also, make sure that you forward port 5525 on your router to your server so that the traffic can get to the server node.

I have the port forwarded in my router but trying a port status tool says the port is closed.  In fact it says port 80 is closed and that's not possible if I'm doing this.  Is there a port checker that is reliable?

My concern now is Verizons network.  That is where my friend is hiding behind.  Is there anyone that would be willing to test my setup?  It's one of those things where it should work...but.

Easy way to test if traffic is getting thru to your server node is to use telnet to your server's DNS (from the client network).


telnet myserver.dyndns.org 5525


Trying myserver.dyndns.org...
Connected to myserver.dyndns.org.
Escape character is '^]'.
VTUN server ver 3.X 11/17/2014    <----------- if you see this line, it is forwarding correctly.

I ended up getting a static IP for my home router.  It was a private network.  It is working now.

Another issue now is some of the nodes time out.  Some nodes on his end are accessible and some aren't.  All the same version. Any pointers on that?

most likely just ETX timeouts for distant nodes.
