One node is connected via WAN cable to a Belkin wi-fi router, and via LAN cable to a mac. This computer  can access the node and a second node. It can also access the internet through the WRT54GS (mac's wi-fi turned off).  An ipad can also access the internet wirelessly through the Belkin router.

Another node is connected via LAN cable to a laptop. Wi-fi is disabled. The laptop can access both nodes, but will not connect to the internet, giving a DNS failure. How to fix this? Both nodes are using 5 Host Direct for LAN, and DHCP for WAN. Thanks.

Is The one with the Internet connection the only one with the wan gateway box checked? What os? Check if it is trying to use a proxy, DNS address are obtained automatically.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The gateway box was not checked on either node; that was the problem. Now it is checked on node 1, connected to the Belkin router. My idea for hamnet is EMCOMM at served agencies (I'm in PPARES). I have WAMP server, AfterLogic Webmail, and paclink installed on the laptop. Just now, I logged onto webmail from the mac to the PC via node 1 to node 2, and wrote a message. Then, I used paclink to connect via telnet, node 2 to node 1 and hence the internet, to send that message. It worked. One thing that puzzles me is the address needed to logon to webmail. On node 2, DHCP 10.33.28.179 is reserved for buckspc, and that is shown under current leases on the port forwarding page in setup. From the mac, I can logon to webmail using http://10.33.28.179, but http://buckspc gives me the error that "the server where this page is located isn't responding." What am I missing here? I'm using 5 Host direct with DHCP checked on each node.

Well, now I'm a bit more confused. I plugged an Apple extreme base station into node 2 (not the internet gateway), with the base station set as a bridge. Then, I disconnected the mac from node 1 and turned on wi-fi, connecting to HamLink (name I gave the base station). Now, typing buckspc into the browser takes me right there! Moreover, my ipad can logon to buckspc and send email via webmail, paclink, node 2 to node 1, and the net. This is great, just what I want. I'm curious, though, as to why I can use buckspc as the browser address when I'm connected via the Apple bridge, but not ethernet directly to a node.
