Hi, I have two WRT54G3G modems with single aerial (sma), I have them running on a local mesh ok but what worries me is that the software allows selection of left/right/diversity but no single aerial facility.

Does anyone know if this modem with the current firmware is putting its o/p into the single aerial. I do not have anyone locally at the moment I can confirm signals with over a reasonable distance.

Hi Andy. Also running a 3g. Signal strength seems fine when looked at from another node so I guess there is not a problem.

Left/Right are the single selections in Linsksys, diversity is both antennas at once. It's documented in the guides somewhere here on the site which port corresponds to each name.

My testing has been with an antenna and dummy load and you can indeed see a signal level decrease when you go to the dummy load antenna.

I just went through every document on the website the other day. You can find out which antenna is Right or Left by navigating to FAQ --> Hardware FAQs --> 7. Antenna's Right and Left.

However...The WRT54G3G only has one antenna. If you leave it on diversity the device will select the antenna that has the strongest strength...and since there is only one, it will select the only antenna.* Alternatively, you can try to figure out which antenna selection it is.

Thats put my mind at rest, however still got a bricked modem when I went to AP mode, luckily I have two!

It's not likely bricked, it's just that going into mesh_ap mode disables the dhcp server so you need to manually set your ip and log in to recover.

Hi All. Another question regarding the 3g. Is the 3g card still usable when the mesh is installed? If so how is it configured?

Owning one of these devices, yes it is still usable. However, you will need to install other packages and configure it through the command prompt. Details can be found on Google.
