Subject :connect a hsmm mesh router via its LAN to my network, but keep mesh users out of internet?

I have a Linksys WRT54G router converted to a hsmm-mesh box, and I'd like to be able to connect it to my home network so I can look at the status and such thru my home network, (I can do that with the home network ethernet cable connected to a LAN port, but not the WAN port).  But I want to configure it so a mesh user cannot access the internet thru my home network.  I see a mesh gateway box under "WAN" on the setup page, but no such box under "LAN".   Is there a way to configure the WAN port so I can get to my mesh status web pages, but have the mesh gateway unchecked?  In my case I have my router as http://192.168.1.99:8080/cgi-bin/status (which I can get to when the home network is connected to a LAN port).  I configured the WAN port to be "static" and at 192.168.1.98 but I cant get to the mesh web pages over my network.

One crude solution would be for me to physically unplug the ethernet cable from the mesh router when I'm not wanting to access it over my network, that would keep mesh users from seeing the internet.  But if there was a reasonably secure method of doing this via configuration I'd like to do that instead.

TIA, 73s

See http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/documentation/96-using-the-mesh.html

If you disable WAN, then a GATEWAY box appears under LAN and you can then set that node to be a gateway between your LAN and the mesh. And with it in this config, it will not be an internet gateway (which can only be done via the WAN port).

I have this exact setup at my place here and from my PC on the LAN, I can peruse the mesh.

Of note,  the MESH STATUS page should always be accessible on your WAN port.

You can't see the olsr status page or any other node pages but you should be able to see the mesh status page.

Thanks.  If I understand it right, I disabled the WAN, and left the "Gateway" box under "LAN" (on the setup page) blank. So anything wanting to go thru a gateway can't, as there is none here, thus blocking internet access.

On the status page now:

WiFi address 10.245.148.132 / 8
fe80::20c:41ff:fef5:9484 Link
LAN address 192.168.1.99 / 24
fe80::20c:41ff:fef5:9482 Link
WAN address none
fe80::20c:41ff:fef5:9482 Link
default gateway none
your address 192.168.1.101

It is always the Mesh Gateway checkbox that determines if you are an internet gateway or not (as long as your running v1.1.0 or higher)   Without that box checked you are not a gateway node.

the Gateway field under LAN settings actually changes how the node tried to get to the internet itself to route traffic that is sent to it from the LAN, or generated on the node (firmware update requests for example and time sync to an NTP server)

Right. I enter my house router in the LAN gateway box, that way it knows who to talk to to get to the LAN/devices on it. Then, if I want, I can go into NAT mode (and set LAN IPs accordingly) to list devices on my LAN as services for the mesh.
