For those looking for an alternative to the Netgear switches for vlan access to a ubunt node...

I have configured the EdgeRouter-PoE-5 to work with the vlan feature of bbhn v3.0.0 and it was actually quite simple.

Add a vlan in the router GUI with an address on some arbitrary private network. I used 192.168.9.1/24
Configure the node WAN settings for another address on that same network (I used 192.168.9.2) and then set the gateway to the router's plan address (192.168.9.1 in my case) and the net mask to 255.255.255.0
Reboot the node

That's it.

Right, the EdgeRouter is much more expensive. But, then it is a full-fledged router, with PoE. It wouldn't make any sense to use just to get at the bbhn wan/vlan. But, if you are using it as a gateway router for other reasons it saves adding a piece of gear to the network.

I have been quite happy with mine. One caveat: there is a GUI for basic setup and most simple scenarios, lie adding the plan. But, once you get past that, it is strictly cli.

There is something to be said as well for not needing POE Injectors. It can make the setup a little more presentable at the rack.

Of course I still recommend a lighting arestor at the building entrance (which is where I inject power on my current mountain top node)
