In order to make it MUCH more convenient to install Hamchat onto your node, I have created a .ipk file from Nicholia's original .zip file.  No longer does one need to mess with the shell to create directories and files hoping that you haven't forgotten something.

My .ipk is just like what would come from our respositories when you download a package on the Administration webpage on your node.  To install:

  1. Click on this link, http://www.bbhn.org/download/applications/hamchat_0.1_all.ipk , and download to your PC.
  2. Go to the Administration page on your node, click on [Choose File] in the PACKAGE MANAGEMENT section, and select the file you just downloaded.
  3. Click [Open] in the file selector window (hitting <RETURN> usually works too).
  4. The file name will appear next to the [Choose file] button.
  5. Press [Upload].

After the HamChat package has been installed the following message will appear on the webpage:

Installing hamchat (0.1) to root...
Configuring hamchat
hamchat has been installed.

For modifications see the file /www/hamchat/README

To use, browse to http://localnode:8080/cgi-bin/hamchat.pl

Done.

Everything is installed per Nickolia's instructions and you're now ready to go.

This same package should install and run on WRT54G's and Ubiquiti hardware alike but, due to a lacking of UBNT hardware I haven't tested it on such; only WRT54G's.  Please let me know of any issues and I'll try to get them squared away.

What prerequisites are there for this to work (on Ubuiquiti)? I assume I need to install a perl parser, but not sure which one. Any tips?

Thanks for the ipk!

No prerequisites (I would told ya if there were some, dewd :-). All the webpages are generated by CGI files on both the WRT54G's and Ubiquiti's and are written in Perl. Certainly there's no need to install another Perl interpreter. It's simply install package and play!

I did find I needed to power cycle the router for the ham chat software to start working. I suspect recycling the web server might have worked as well. WRT54GL Gary n8emr
