I am about to buy some ubiquity equipment using the approved list. However I seem to remember seeing a post that said that each device must be individually checked to verify compatibility.  Something about differing versions of an internal circuit within the same model number.

Am I confused?

If a test is indeed required, how can one buy equipment if it needs to be physically tested for suitability?

Hi Ron,

Yes, there are two type of boards in a few models of Ubiquiti.  They are distinguished as:

  • XM - the older version and the type supported by our current firmware
  • XW - the newer version which they began manufacturing around 1/1/2014

I have had success in asking the distributor, before placing my order, to check the manufacture date... which is clearly listed on the box external label, to ensure it's prior to the beginning of 2014.

Of course this is only on 5GHz. The supported 2.4GHz(where a lot of the activity currently is) and 900MHz models are safe to our knowledge

I received a NanoStation M5 with a firmware of XW.v5.5.9, is there any hope that we will have a release to load on this device or should I send it back?
