Hi,

I tried to load the correct firmware but got an "Upgrade Are Failed" message. Now the Power LED flashes rapidly and I can't ping it! I understand that I now have to connect a JTAG and reload the bootstrap. Is that correct? Lynksys doesn't have the firmware on their website anymore so instead can I load the hamnet software after I re-install the bootstrap?

Thanks for the help,

Paul

I've been meaning to write up a set of "unbrick" notes, but it still needs a lot of work.

There are a few things to try that might be easier to try with than JTAG.

Be sure to try the "unplug the power for a day or two" and see if that works.

Here are my notes so far.

Unbrick with TFTP – Install with TFTP...

Reset password with failsafe mode.

http://hsmm-mesh.org/documentation/71-using-safe-mode-to-reset-a-forgotten-password.html

What to do if your router doesn't work ("bricked") or you forget the password

There are several techniques to recover from a lost password on your router.

There are also techniques to recover a "bricked" router.  i.e., you flashed your router and it doesn't work now.  It's a "brick."

Step 1 – Be sure it's really broken

After you flash a router, IP addresses change.  Your PC may not be "talking" to the correct IP address.   Your router may be working fine, but your PC just isn't connecting.

Some things to try.

Power the router off and on.  Normally, a few seconds will do, but it's been reported that, sometimes, powering off overnight or longer will fix a router that appears to be bricked.
Unplug and replug the ethernet cable.
Turn the network off and on in your PC.
Reboot the PC.
Manually tinker with the network configuration.
Be sure you know how to put it back to "normal."
Try to connect to it from the WAN port
Plug the WAN port of the broken router into a working network that provides DHCP, for instance, into a LAN port of another router.
Look at the DHCP status of the working router to see if another DHCP lease shows up.  For instance, the Setup->Port Forwarding/DHCP and Services page at localnode:8080/cgi-bin/ports on another Broadband/Hamnet router.
Connect to that node with your browser, for instance, as 10.56.118.23:8080

Resetting passwords on a working router

Plug your PC into a LAN port on the router.  Connect to localnode:8080.  You should get a web page.  Try the "setup" button, and you should get a password prompt.  The userid is root.  The default password is "hsmm."

I think the bbhn-1.0.0-wrt54gs.bin software may simply install using the TFTP installation process listed lower down in this article: http://hsmm-mesh.org/documentation/68-firmware-installation-instructions.html
