Hi,

Being a newbie in the network field the answer may seam obvious to all, but I'll post it any way.

I am 1/5 into the recomended book, so I may find my answer there, but as always I want the project to get up and running as fast as possible

I am building a remote node high in the mountains, being run by a battery and a solar power.

I bought a Terracom TCW122B-CM controller to monitor the battery status and temperatures on the node.

I can access this fine on a wired ethernet at home, and over regular wifi connected to the ethernet but under testing with 2 x mesh nodes in the shop, I cannot get an answer from the controller.

I have tried to ping it with out luck.

It has the address 192.168.1.2 which for some reason I cannot reach over MESH.

I hope someone can help me here.

Are you running the current BBHN firmware version 1.0.0?

The 192.168.x.x IP address sounds like your router is in NAT mode.

Check LAN under the basic setup page and see if it says NAT or "5 host direct."  I think 5 Host Direct is the new default.

If you're in NAT mode, devices plugged into your router are not "visible" to other nodes unless you do port forwarding or other configuration.

If you use direct mode, your devices will be visible to all nodes.

If you use direct mode, you should get a 10.x.x.x IP address for the devices.

I'm not part of the development team, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm also easily confused.

Check out the free Wireless Networking Book

Hi, Glen;

The address you quoted, 192.168.1.2, is the default static admin address for the Teracom device. Connect to it directly with a cross-over cable, and using the admin page, change the IP configuration to DHCP. Then, when you connect it to the BBHN node, it'll be given an address in the 10.x.x.x range, and you'll be able to connect to it over the node's lan. It's new address should be visible on one of the node's setup pages. It should pop up on the 'dhcp leases' section of the nat/port forwarding page, but sometimes that's slow to appear for some reason. You can do a dhcp reservation and advertised service to make future connections across nodes more convenient.

I'm new at all this networking stuff too. Playing with BBHN has been a quick education for me.

And thanks for the link to Teracom; I've been looking for that device for a while. I haven't been able to find an inexpensive environmental monitor till now, and at less than $100 CDN this fits the bill quite nicely.

Hi Guy´s

Ron was right, it was switched to a static address, I have switched to DHCP and bingo shows up on my nodes, so now I have full access and my testing is ongoing.

It was the cheapest 12V monitor I could find it also has two switchable relays which also means some good options.

It has the option to send emails when items reach a certain threshold  which I like.
