Hi all, My background is in RF engineering, I wanting to find out if the Rocket M3 units are able to operate within the 9cm band from 3.3 to 3.4GHz? if so we are planning all our data links here in Auckland between Mesh networks on 13cm (2.4Ghz) to be on 3.3GHz. The approach we are taking is to build a high speed data pipe to carry Packet radio packets, Mesh data and video over IP. This why I'm doing this engineering for both this high speed data network and the DATV repeater at the same time. I have tested Rocket M5 units and I'm working on the bases that the M3 will provide the same amount of data through put. At this stage we only require point to point linking on 3.3GHz with the Mesh operating on 2.4 and 5.6GHz. I would be interested in finding out all I can about this Ubiquiti product.

A few of us here in the Portland area have been waiting for non-2.4 alternative. We've been experimenting with the M3 series as the frequencies are a lot more appropriate (and with a lot less interference) for amateur radio use. |

That is excellent news.
Currently we are planning on using the 3.3Ghz freq as a backbone pipe. Potential three high sites.
From there mesh members will be able to downlink at 3.3Ghz to a local mesh and then spread out locally on 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz.
So the 3.3Ghz will be reserved for interconnecting local suburbs. The other freq's will be for general mesh use. |

Hi again,
I was talking Robert ZL1FLY today about the M3 units, there is another thing that needs to be worked out. This is common microwave band plans world wide, this is the same for the Mesh networks as ATV/DATV as both are wide band modes. It's important that manufactures have international market available for their equipment. This way data products can be made to be plug and play for Ham radio.
Maybe this should be another topic in it's self? |
