Hi all.  Just got two nodes talking to each other, one end has a Raspberry Pi attached, the other has a Ubuntu laptop.  I can see the RPi from the laptop, but only if I use its name, raspberrypi, with .local.mesh appended, or if I use its IP address.  The quickstart says this situation is because my dns is messed up. I've tried a number of fixes to the dns on the Ubuntu machine but have had no success.  My question is, can I modify something so I don't have to append .local.mesh? Or do I use raspberrypi.local.mesh?

Thank for any suggestions, and a big thanks to the developers!  Broadband Hamnet is cool!

Give "cat /etc/resolv.conf" and see if the local.mesh is in the list

if not (for example you are connected via dhcp to a wifi and via wire to the mesh node ) Try reading http://askubuntu.com/questions/52001/adding-additional-dns-search-domains-when-using-dhcp for how to setup.

Main thing is to get it to have a search line with "local.mesh"  on it (see man resolv.conf in Linux for more info on this file). You can just edit this file and out it in but often it is overwritten so it won't stick for long.

Thanks Conrad.  After reading your post I realized I had wireless on at the same time I was on the wired connection.  I turned that off, and I also did the Network Manager changes that were in that link you gave me.  I rebooted everything and now it works.  I can telnet to raspberrypi, no need for IP address or appended .local.mesh.

Thanks again for the help.
