Hello. Would like to set up some nodes but wondering if there is an existing mesh here that I can participate in...

Will in the Florida Panhandle.   Thanks.

Hello??? Well, I snagged a wrt54gl and changed the firmware successfully... But no nodes in range for it to connect to. I think I'll throw it in the car and drive about and see if there may be nodes somewhere else. I think I know where I can get a couple more of these things cheap, so I'll snag them and start my own mesh network I guess... Anybody want to venture a guess as to the range of one of these? I know that line of sight, atmospheric conditions etc etc can affect the range. I just want a "rough" answer. If one were to throw the pcb into one of those 19db gain patch antenna enclosures, what range does one expect to see? Comments? Or is this board dead. Is there another forum that is more active maybe???

Oh no, this board is far from dead. Click on Latest Posts at the top to see. Many of us have been swamped lately, so please dont feel offended if no one answers right away. With a 24dBi dish on each end, we shot a 6 mile link with ease. With a 24 Dish and a stamped yagi, 10 miles (hen the wind wasnt bouncing the yagi around) 19dBi panel should get you as far as you can see. Less if you cant see that far :-) We have a Google map on here (look at the left menu after logging in) that I have been trying to get people to submit their Lat/Lon so others can see if there si someone close. feel free to email me yours if you like (jim@*mycallsign*.com (insert my callsign for proper address) and I will be glad to get you on the map, in case others might want to hook up. 73!
