Hi Eric,
I have been in touch with some meshers in East York and Scarborough.
Let me know when you get the Port Weller node operational and I will ask them to aim their antennas toward it to check if they can see it.
I believe you know Arpad, va3vad, in East York, he can see the entrance to the Welland Canal from his balcony and has recently modified a dish antenna to 2.4 Ghz for use on mesh with a Linksys router.
You may also know Rod, ve3soy, who has a node to install in the next week or two on the edge of the Scarborough Bluffs, Warden and Kingston Roads.
I have mentioned to both of them that your node may be set up soon in Port Weller and they will try to see and or connect with it.
Cheers, Ian, va3igd, NPARC member also, ianvgg@gmail.com |

Thanks for the update Ian. The first node going up will be Fonthill VE3PLF-100 on a tower in Fonthill. That is scheduled for today, May 12, 2014 Port Weller will go up after Dayton so it will be somewhere around May 24, 2014 I suspect the people in Toronto should have a good shot at Fonthill as I can see Toronto from the Tower

Eric, What type of equipment is being used at the two below locations? Node at VE3PLF (atop Fonthill) and VA3YYZ at the St Catharines Marina (Port Weller) My name is Gavin VA3XRR and I'm trying to get the South Pickering group involved in the Durham region area. I'm sure we should be able to see you from Ajax.

Hi, Eric;
I was in Fonthill last week with a mobile node, and connected to VE3PLF from various places around town. Saw another node connect at one point. I could send a screen shot if you like; would that constitute a QSL card?
Radio Mobile Online is telling me we have a shot at a viable link between Fonthill and our Hamilton repeater site. 47 Km, but nice line of sight.
I need a couple of details to help flesh that out:
- What's the gain on your omni?
- What's the bullet's power output? I think default is 28 dBm?
I only have WRT's and Nanostations at the moment. I can test with a WRT54 and a 24 db dish, but would want something like a Rocket for a fixed link. Our site is at the corner of Upper Gage and Fennel in Hamilton, height above ground is 220 feet (or 75 m)
Your thoughts? 73 |
