A recent discussion at NPARC has resulted in a few new nodes going up! Kevin, VA3KGS, is leading the charge in the Fonthill area with a node proposed for the Fonthill area and the St Catharines area.

Brad Taylor , Mike VE3CKO and Kevin are actively testing their networks. Eric ve3ei (me) plans on adding a node at VE3PLF (atop Fonthill) and VA3YYZ at the St Catharines Marina (Port Weller)

Everyone is encouraged to take a look and see if you can see the nodes! Come join the fun!

I see no reason it should not work.

the easiest way is to make sure your node is in DIRECT mode (default since 1.0.0)

After that it's a question of how the device is obtaining it's IP address.

If by DHCP it should obtain it's address from your mesh node when plugged in directly to it just like a computer would.

if you have statically assigned the IP address than you would need to change it to match your mesh node range.

After that is setup from any other mesh mode you should be able to reach it's on it's 10.x address from another node or locally from the node.

Got my new antenna today Ubiquiti AirGrid 17x24" 20dBi.  Loaded the Firmware and we are up and running.  Now to get that antenna on the roof and connect to another node.  Love the new hardware.  Scott - KD7HRK

Topic : Can I share com port hube between nodes?

I have been at this for hours and have tried countless configurations. Still no joy. My device is a Comtrol Ethernet Device Server. www.comtrol.com/ethernet-device-servers/devicemaster-rts/devicemaster-rts-4port-db9   This thing works great on a regular network, but i just cant seem to get into it from a remote node. Is there a way for 2 mesh nodes to act as 1 local network. Am I missing something. this would open up a chance at some real fun remote control options but I'm losing my mind here? Has anyone used one of these devices across a mesh before? I'll try anything here so give me an idea and I'll tell you the results.

That's an easy fix. Login and look at the /etc/httpd.conf file. It should look like this:
/cgi-bin/setup:root:password
/cgi-bin/ports:root:password
/cgi-bin/admin:root:password

I have the same problem with a pair of WRT54GLv1.1s. Changing the password in failsafe mode "seems" to work, but no access to the setup page. Using vi to delete the password field in /etc/passwd, then using the passwd command again "seems" to work, but gives no access. Is there something simple we have got wrong? 73, Graham, ZL3GSL

Topic : Wireless Access Point

I have two WRT54G routers that were set up as mesh nodes, VE7SML-1 and VE7SML-2. I am new to this stuff and set VE7SML-1 to a Wireless access point. Now I can' t connect to it. I read the FAQ's and found the advice to connect the two routers with a LAN cable and then connect one to the ethernet port of my computer, which I did. I then tried to point my browser to 172.27.0.2:8080 and still no luck.

My computer says that there is wireless signal from both VE7SMl-1 and VE7SML-2.

I want to change the WAP back to a mesh node.

Thanks

I finally set up a node in downtown Rockville.

One node does not make a mesh but it is a beginning.

Just for grins, I flashed a picoststaionM2.

after the flash completed, the unit rebooted with an IP of 192.168.1.1.  WEB access did not work. Played with it for a while then connected it to a router setup with the router address as 192.168.1.3.

Connected via a browser to 192.168.1.1:8080, basic step up page came up. Set my callsign and password, saved and reboot.

The PSM2 came up joined the mesh. You can access it via the mesh status page of other nodes. What it has trouble with is assigning an IP address to anything plugged into the LAN port of the POE. I tried connecting a simple switch, still no joy on getting IP assigned.

It does say in big bold letters: UNTESTED .... but is close..

Changing the web browser to Opera did the trick. Sometimes, a different web browser will work. I originally tried Internet Explorer to no avail.

I now have 2 nodes available to install. VE3EI-1 (Bullet M2) and VE3EI-2 (Rocket M2)

Project for the weekend!

I recently flash updated a Bullet M2 and everything went "by the book"

I then attempted to flash update a Rocket M2, using the same configuration, and I keep getting this error: Firmware image check failed. Error code -4

A I downloading the proper file? On the download page it shows the Rocket M2 file. I assume that file is correct?

I'm avoiding announcing a target date. We had some unexpected issues getting the beta release out. It'll likely be a couple more months. Andre, K6AH

Here is an idea for helping fill in the holes of the coverage from this site. Put two nodes on the tower. One on one side and the other on another side. To help reduce coupling in the antennas have one placed above the other. Maybe place them such that they can both see the most populated area from opposite sides of the tower.

I just became aware of a similar non-ham application called Commotion.   .http://commotionwireless.net

Using OSLR to create mesh networks on Ubiquiti radios to provide internet access to impoverished neighborhoods.   There's some interesting stories about its use in Tunisia.

Perhaps Ham radio should be reaching out to the Commotion community to offer support and assistance in what seems like a very worthwhile endeavor......

Topic : WRT54G-TM

Howdy,

So I found myself with a WRT54G-TM, an interesting device was wondering if the firmware would load on it. Nope it wouldn't so I thought I'd try to install dd-wrt but for some reason I must have borked something.

I did a factory reset to the linksys firmware. Following these instructions: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=212455#212455

I loaded in the CFE and it went ok, however after that it just kind of got stuck with the power light blinking. I seemingly can tftp into it, and put firmware on to the device but it doesn't do anything. Won't reboot won't update etc. I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand/insight?
