I just heard about this network,  Way Cool, I like it.  I know very little about this subject but plan to learn more.  Anyone out there who can help me set up with the right gear? K5KFH.

Welcome!

Probably the best gear is the Linksys/Cisco WRT54GL (note the L) wireless router.  The older versions of the WRT54G and 'GS will work too, versions 1.x thru 4.x that is. The newer versions do not have the amounts of RAM nor FLASH memories to load our version of the OpenWRT firmware.

Another thing to do is to go wandering through this website, reading and soaking up all you can. The more you know about TCP/IP networking the better. If you don't even the "TCP/IP for Dummies" would be a good started book!

Oh yeah.... we like to have fun around here so get used to it! :-)

Thanks for the info, I will be looking much deeper into this line of communication. My shack is currently being re-built, I have an ICOM 751 for HF, currently I have only listened with it, because I have not had a good antenna. I also use a Yasue 7100 & an FT 60. When I pull my shack together, I plan on being able to commuicate on or off the grid. I have only been a ham for about 3 years and I am "just starting" to get to learn all the technology that's available. I am looking to purchase some equipment to finish out my shack; a good antenna or two & a good base station VHF, UHF. I am also interested in MW applications. I could use some help setting up & programming once the shack is finished. What are the recommendations for a good all around HF antenna (money IS an issue, and other add ons for HF, VHF, UHF? K5KFH
