I am considering a point to point link to my RC flying field for a camera and weather info over a path of about 15 miles line of site. The contour on Google earth looks clear. If someone wants to look the two endpoints are 34 degrees 09' 16.02" N by 117 degrees 37' 13.15"  W to 33 degrees 57' 22.17"  N by 117 degrees 30' 23.72" W.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Attached is the Radio Mobile link prediction at 2.4 GHz.  Looks feasible with a UBNT MIMO device with at least 1/2 watt (27dBm) of transmit power and 16 dBi antennas.  Note that this is modelled at 24 dBm because MIMO splits the power in half for each V/H polarizations.  That leaves you with 17.5 dB of fade margin if neither end is in a noisy environment (down around -95db)… although this looks like a highly populated area, so 2.4 is probably not your best band choice.  You should probably consider 5.8 GHz or 900 MHz.

Thanks Andre, that gives me some direction.

Is it bad that what I noticed first is "that looks like an airport just west of the middle of the path" and my first thought is "I wonder what the bounce propagation will be like"' (I'd have to look closer later with the charts and actual distance from airport and signal height at that point but on a serious side that might prove to be a very interesting link long term)

if you do construct it I would be curious if you actually see decreases in signals from the airport or if your high/low enough to be out of the landing pattern, and if it does whom else sees a rare beacon from you on the splatter (a node down here has been known to hear a nose 40+ miles away every now and then for a packet or two when conditions are just right, would never be useable as a reliable link but it's still interesting to see that nodes IP address show up in the screen)
