I'm the proud owner of two M2 Bullet bricks thanks to the XM.v.5.6.x firmware incompatibility. The OpenWRT site seems to indicate this can be prevented by "downgrading" a newer XM.v.5.6.x unit to an older Ubiquiti firmware such as XM.v.5.5.x before attempting to load the Hamnet firmware. Before investing further in this project, I'd like to hear from someone who has successfully done this.

Is there anyone out there who has successfully "unbricked" one of these newer units?

Is there anyone out there who has successfully flashed bbhn-3.1.x into a M2 Bullet of this latest generation?

By chance, did you test it and backup your device before upgrading with my U-Boot Test tool?

Regrettably, Darryl, no. This was my first venture into the mesh networking realm, and it was done about two days before the warning was posted here. I was the guinea pig for a small group of us in the area. I have attempted through various means to revert to the original Ubiquiti firmware, but it appears they weren't exaggerating when they said it would be "bricked". I'm more or less resigned to the loss of these two devices, but I don't want to throw good money after bad i.e. I want to be sure I won't brick another following what appears to be the current work around. AI4WU, I just acquired a Ubiquiti Bullet M5-Ti - and have the mesh software running on it. The steps I followed were to: Hmmm - should I post this just now? You can contact me off list - I can give you the procedure I used. I did not brick my device. I have done that with some tablet work in the past - and don't want to relive that experience. I assume you can find me using my callsign. 73's, John AJ6BC

John, I tried contacting you off list at your QRZ listed email address, but I haven't heard anything back. Maybe I'm stuck in your spam filter. In any case, if you can't find my previous email, please drop me a line at ai4wu@icloud.com Thanks, Chuck AI4WU
