Hello,

I'm curious to find out how many users of HSMM-MESH are in Utah.  What city/county are you in?  Is there any interest in creating a large mesh if possible?

I am located in Salt Lake County.  The city of Riverton to be exact.  I am starting the work to get HSMM-MESH used in Salt Lake County ARES (http://www.slcoares.net/).

I would love to hear from other Utah mesh users.

AC7BR

The Davis County Amateur Radio Club has a group that is now working on this topic. See: http://www.dcarc.net/go/

I hope this helps.

I am Dennis Tracey in Tooele. Veteran of 35 years in Defense Satellite Communications System, now retired. Heard about this last month and trying to use it. Have two nodes in my bedroom. Trying to get Focus VideoPhone up between two lap tops and getting no joy. Going to be something simple, but I have CRS concerning networking. Don't use it, you lose it. Suppose to have a speaker at 4 September meeting at club here, but I am finding it hard to wait till then. Willing to bring my gear to your qth to be shown a few tricks of the trade.

Dennis,
Try putting the IP of each laptop into the DMZ of each router and see if that works.

That removes any port forwarding possibilities.

If THAT works, then you could research what ports need to be forwarded in the firewall (if you desire to tighten things up a bit)

If that still doesnt work, I would check firewall/permissions on each laptop.

Maybe even move both laptops to the same physical LAN (plug both into the same node) to check to see that they CAN talk to each other properly first.

I ran into an issue when playing with VoIP, that when on the same LAN, no problems at all, but move an ATA behind another node, and blammo... I get hit with problems to work out.

Let me/us know how it goes with that, as Im always wanting to hear solutions.

Thanks and 73

Jim

Dennis,

Focus Video Phone uses Port 4500 and offers no way to select any alternative ports. If you use port forwarding as I did, this limits you to one Focus Video Phone station on each MESH node.

I've gotten Focus Video Phone working by doing the following. In the setup for each MESH node to which a Focus Video Phone computer is connected:

- assign a DHCP reservation for the computer that is hosting Focus Video Phone

- enable Port Forwarding over Port 4500 to the computer hosting Focus Video Phone. 73 Mark KV4I

I have a node in Riverton.  It would be interesting to see if we could get the Murray, South Jordan and Riverton nodes linked up.  I suspect this would take a central (hub) node of some height though.  Most nodes at valley level will be blocked by trees and buildings.

I am up in Logan UT with AG1T, and will be working with him and others to get some things going in the Northern most part of the state. Steve KE7WAQ and I were able to get our mesh nodes up and running and talking to each other mode today. That was cool to see. Now working on supporting hardware to get them in the air.

I now have 4 nodes available in Tooele. I would like to meet with someone who is successful in getting video and viop working. I am in the embarrassing position of having antennas here but no adapters. I have ordered forty tonight. Tooele wants to get this show on the road.

My nodes are functional. I need antennas (gain and HAAT) or PA/antennas (HAAT). Learning 4NEC2 for antenna analysis.

I have 2 WRT54GS and 3 WRT54G units that I have flashed. There are two more on the shelf that I have not touched. Those two might be up for trade. I have been working on tripod antenna poles. I have been thinking a couple of base units and some portable units. Antennas seem to be the problem. Doug k5hmy@arrl.net

Brad, I'm in South Jordan - somewhat between you and Ed, but a bit to the west. I've got a Linksys that could be used for this, but haven't set up a node yet. I'd be interested in working with you on this. Lance K7LQH

Greetings,

I am brand new to this having attended a recent state RACES convention where Mesh was presented.  I got really jazzed and bought 4 routers off Ebay that arrived today.  One is a WRT54G Version 3 and the other three are WRT54GS Version 1 units.  All are running DD-WRT v24 SP2.  I was ready to flash the first one with mesh using the Admin/Firmware Upgrade when I vaguely remembered that you have to do something to dd-wrt first (erase parameters?  Killer?) so I stopped and started this post.

What is needed to mesh these units?  It looks like there are 3 nodes in the SL Valley so hopefully I can connect to someone.  I plan to mount one node outside, another in the shack, and setup two for portable use in public service situation.

Any help is appreciated

Go to User Documentation. Item #8 Firm Ware Installation. When you think it does not make total sense get with someone who has done it. There is one step left out. You have to disconnect the unit and then hook it up again so that youcan move forward. If there is no one in your area call me. Doug

Thanks to a post I converted two routers today and they are running and talking to each other. Now to find some gain antennae and get one of these outside to see who it can hear. My approximate coordinates are 2200 East and 3300 South in SLC. I am open to things that work ane especially applications to run over Mesh. 73

Dave, I am also in East Mill Creek and live about a mile from you. I attended the RACES conference and saw the demonstration and was also intrigued by it. Since that time I have got two routers and one antenna for nodes. Now to get them configured and online. Scott, W7OXZ, also attended and is interested in it. If I heard him correctly, he is getting two nodes to play with. Let me know if and when you would want to get together. John KF7NQW
