Hi all... new to the mesh but have been experimenting with it and have successfully loaded RasPBX on a RaspberryPi and successfully connected it and configured it into the mesh.  I am running two Linksys SPA941 IP phones as well as the 3CX softphone on two laptops connected to the mesh as well for a total of 4 extensions (100,101,102,103).  My problem is that my calls keep disconnecting at precisly 7 seconds.  When first setting it up I connected without disconnecting any calls.  Not sure what I have done or might have changed to have this start happening.  I'm thinking I have something wrong with port forwarding but don't remember what I did initially.  Any suggestions?  Thanks......Phil, KA1PXZ

After some more experimenting, I have not had any dropped calls and two-way audio on a call between one of the 3CX softphones on a laptop and one of the Linksys SPA941 phones connected to the same node.  Seems to drop calls only when calling a hardwired phone or softphone/laptop combo that is connected to another node.  For testing purposes, each node is simply in a different room in the house and most of the time have 100% or near 100% link quality.  Does anyone know if there is something that I need to change on the nodes to help?  Thanks....

Do you have a packet trace of a good call and a failed call you could share?  Exactly 7 seconds sure sounds like a timer of some sort but that is awfully short for any standard SIP timers I can think of.

I know on asterisk, that you must add the 10. Network to your NAT list. I had a similar problem until I configured that.

K0DFS - how do I run and document a packet trace on a call? K5DLQ - where do I add the 10. network to the NAT list? Sorry if the answers to these questions are simple. I am new to this (VoIP) and not overly familiar with some of it, including the network configs..... thanks. Phil, KA1PXZ

Hi Phil KA1PXZ,

To get a packet capture you will need to install software on your computer. There are lots of different programs out there but the two most popular for Windows systems are Wire Shark and Ethereal. Both programs have plenty of documentation to show you how to use them. Once you have one installed and understand how to use it you will need to start the packet capture and then place a phone call with the intention of repeating the error. Then save the packet capture and upload it so somebody who knows more than I do, can take a look at it.

As for the NAT, if you can already place and receive calls from phones that are connected to different nodes this should not be an issue as the initial connection (call) was successful. However, there are three devices involved here. Two phones (soft or hard) and the VoIP server. If all three devices are connected to different nodes, NAT or routing may be part of the issue.

From what you posted it sounds like we have similar hardware, two soft phones, two hard phones and RasPBX (I also have PBX in a flash installed on a virtual machine), if you can give me more details on how your equipment is connected I can try and re-create/troubleshoot the problem.

Hope this helps,

KE8AVJ

4 nodes. One GL, one Bullet, one AirGrid and one Raspberry Pi node. RasPBX and web server setup on another Raspberry Pi.

Hello again,

I was able to do some testing and found my calls were also being dropped after a random amount of time ranging from 14 seconds to 90 seconds. I was able to correct the problem by adjusting the ports being forwarded to the Raspberry.

Below is a screenshot of my settings.
Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks KE8AVJ... I will check and make sure that all of the ports are configured correctly. That might explain why I don't drop call when calling from one phone to another on the same node that the RasPBX is also connected to. It only seems to be an issue with other nodes. K5DLQ - I will see about loading third party software to trap a packet cluster for evaluation.... thanks for help from both of you. I'm convinced it is something simple and right under my nose but frustrating when you can't find it!!!!!
