I am attempting to setup a VoIP over mesh system.

2 Polycom 501 phones

2 WRT54G V2 & V3

Latest mesh firware - bbhn-1.0.0-brcm.trx

Latest Asterisk downloaded and installed on RasPi.

Followed Jim's video for Asterisk/Pi/Phone setup.

Mesh router displays host name but no blue Service Link on the Mesh status page.

Phone displays " url call is disabled " and no dial tone.

I can ping phone from RasPi using IP address but not by name. DNS???

Any suggestions are most appreciated.

Thank You,

Fred

only ONE phone is not working? or neither of them? Check your configuration, and as for using Asterisk on the RasPi... use the RaspberryPi-Asterisk FreePBX Distro that is pre-Built for the RasPi. It will save you a TON of work. I use it with my system now, and it has made it SOOO much easier to work with. PS... Im looking for some one to long distance tunnel with to try and figure out the VoIP over WAN/Tunnel system.

Where can I find the RaspberryPi-Asterisk FreePBX Distro that you mentioned? I finally have the mesh routers configured to display the service links. I can now log into both the local and remote phones and FreePBX over the mesh using the service links. Two lines show up as being connected in FreePBX. I get the following messages when the phones boot: "Could not Contact Boot Service" Loading App App=Sip.ld Both phones have NO dial tone and " url call is disabled " displays when off hook. The phones appear to be trying to contact a provisioning server. Can I disable that? I've tried to manually configure the phones via http but am not sure about the configuration settings. I have marginal Linux and networking knowledge. Other information that I've read mentioned setting up an FTP server and putting configuration files on it but that's beyond my present knowledge. Any assistance in getting these phones working is greatly appreciated. Thanks Fred

I`ll get back to you all sometime this weekend. Polycom phones are a little bit more involved.

http://www.raspberry-asterisk.org/documentation/

"Could not Contact Boot Service" Loading App App=Sip.ld Both phones have NO dial tone and " url call is disabled " displays when off hook.
That happens because the phone is trying to contact a boot server for provisioning. This can be reset in the setup menu when the phone is first booting up.

Manual configuration of the phones:
http://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/manually-configure-polycom-soundpoint/ If you cannot see a WebGUI, you will need to upgrade your phone to the latest compatible firmware and BOOTROM too (see the belows).

FTP Server for Files:
You will need to grab the newest firmware and config settings from http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sip_sw_releases_matrix.html. Place them on the server, and point the phone (configured from setup when the phone is booting) to the FTP server address. It'll help if you could also glance over the Administrator manual for the Polycom devices.

Same rules apply: http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/hsmm-files/ip-phone-files/183-polycom-ip-601-files.html

Hopefully this will get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks Paul!

The distribution you noted is the one I installed.

I'll work on the rest of your suggestions now.

I appreciate your patience with old guys like me.

Hi Fred, did you ever get up and running? I only have 2 phones,(on seperate nodes), but run my RPi on the Mesh node which is installed in my car. Each person with a mesh node can also have a phone, when my car shows up, the network sees the asterisk server and the phones work. I shot a quick vid of the RPi setup. 73 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL_0nu83MCU

On the port forwarding DHCP and services page, add a link for the PI server.

In the RESERVATIONS side of the row, Hostname IP Address

MAC Address are requred

ON the right side of the row, Name Link URL are required.

Make sure the "link" box is checked if you want it to be clickable.

see 2 screen shots in attachments.
