Howdy,

So during field day I set up a mesh network to network all our computers and loggers together. During this period one of the computers was having trouble. I was using a wrt54g with the latest firmware, and the router couldn't see this computer. I was trying to give it a static ip address but it would partially show up or not at all. For some reason when I tried to add a dhcp reservation, it told me something about the name being invalid. The hostname on the computer was DELL_DUAL_CORE or something to that affect but the firmware didn't like it. After changing the name of the PC the router had no problems seeing the PC and adding the dhcp reservation.

Thanks,

"The Internet standards (Request for Comments) for protocols mandate that component hostname labels may contain only the ASCII letters 'a' through 'z' (in a case-insensitive manner), the digits '0' through '9', and the hyphen ('-'). The original specification of hostnames in RFC 952, mandated that labels could not start with a digit or with a hyphen, and must not end with a hyphen. However, a subsequent specification (RFC 1123) permitted hostname labels to start with digits. No other symbols, punctuation characters, or white space are permitted."

This means that the name chosen can not have an underscore and be valid. This actually sounds like a bug in your operating system in letting you choose a name with an underscore and sending it out in the DHCP request.

The BBHN WebUI properly refused to let you register this invalid name and that is where the message came from.

Awesome thanks, yea I wasn't sure which one was off, but thought I better post it just in case as it was pretty odd behavior.
