Topic : WRT54G with HooToo TripMate Nano Wireless Access Point

I disable the DHCP of the Nano router, and as an Wifi Access Point can get and IP from the Mesh Router. Name resolve was not working so in the Windows laptop added in DNS append "local.mesh". Now, working OK. This little portable router has enough memory and there was an OpenWRT HooToo TM-02 firmware available. So, flash it to have more control of the parameters.

Topic : WRT54G Mesh Gateway no internet to other Nodes

I have a WRT54G set up as a Mesh Gateway.  I follow the instructions below link to "Linking HSMM-Mesh into your Home Network" and can access OK the Mesh from my Local Lan:

http://ohiopacket.org/index.php/Integrating_HSMM-MESH_into_an_existing_network

LAN
LAN MODE: NAT
IP Address: 192.168.1.240
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: uncheck

WAN
Protocol: disabled
DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
DNS 2: 8.8.4.4
Mesh Gateway: Checked

An ethernet cable is connected from the Home Lan to one of the the 4 Lan port of the WRT54G Mesh Gateway have internet access on the 3 Lan port free.  Also, ssh to port 2222 and ping 8.8.8.8 and reply OK, ping with domain name is OK, and ping to 2nd WRTG54 mesh by name is OK.

Second WRT54G (HP2AT-LSK2) sees OK the First WRT54G Mesh Gateway and can access OK the Mesh Status and services.  But does not have internet.  The Mesh gateway is advertised OK because on the 2nd WRT54G OSLR Routes shows:

Destination                            Gateway                              Metric    ETX       Interface
0.0.0.0/0                              10.37.118.27 (HP2AT-LSK1)    1          1.000    wl0
10.37.118.27 (HP2AT-LKS1)    10.37.118.27 (HP2AT-LSK1)    1          1.000    Wl0

Is the Mesh firmware programmed to route internet access only through the WAN port or with the Mesh Gateway box checked can detect and route internet through the Lan port.

If, by dividing ethernet cables, you are contemplating a physical splice, I would like to wave a caution flag. That method can introduce significant frustration into the situation.

Could you connect the SDR and shack PC to one mesh node (4 port ethernet switch on the WRT54G) and the downstairs PC to a second node? Then both PC's can access the SDR as an advertised service.

I got it back. I had to go in and set the TCP/IP settings and reset the IP address in and subnet mask in the network settings then log on with the a new IP address as specified in the help settings. Now to figure why it isn't showing up as a service.

I want to thank all the suggestions for my question.

I normally don't concern myself in having access to the actual internet.

But the directions point out to have the "N1mm master" computer have access to the internet for internet time service at least. I am not sure if there is access to other internet services that the master computer uses during the contest.

again thanks

Topic : locked out of linksys after pbx install

Hi, After I set up my Linksys wt54gl for Asterisk, I found a couple of problems.  First, after the initial configuration, my pbx showed up on the mesh status screen but Asterisk was not offered as a service.  I had my pi up and running Asterisk and followed the video instructions.  Trying a couple of different things, I changed the Linksys from a mesh node to a mesh access point and now it won't let me back in.  I think it has a diffent IP address but no idea what it is.  Any ideas what the new IP might be so I can change it back to a mesh node?

Actually the NW-Mesh group had developed a stripped down firmware built for this hardware. So you can get this hardware going and talking to the rest of you network if you really want to.

Topic : WRT54G with HooToo TripMate Nano Wireless Access Point

I have two used WRT54G with the latest BBHN firmware working OK.  With a Laptop connected through the ethernet cable can access OK both mesh and the services.

I connected a HooToo Tripmate Nano Wireless Router via ethernet to one of the Lan port to have the option to have access the mesh wireless through my Laptop or Cellphone.  The mesh Nat Lan port is in the subnet 192.162.5.1.  The HooToo default IP web setting access is 10.10.10.254 and assign IP in the 10 range.  So I, changed the IP subnet to 192.168.8.254.  The Hootoo Nano automatic DHCP obtain an IP 192.168.5.113 from the WRT54G.

I connect OK wireless on the HooToo and received the IP 192.168.8.40.  On the webpage, I http://192.168.5.1:8080 and can access OK the local mesh connected.  But, cannot resolve through the name http://localnode:8080 or http://hp2at-lks2:8080.  Cannot access the second mesh webpage or services.  It is not resolving the DNS.

Should I set the HooToo Access point to the same subnet 192.168.5.X.  Or how Do you setup a regular wireless router to be able to access the mesh, other meshes and the services.

Topic : Basic Tunneling setup

Hey Guys,

We are starting a small but mighty group here in Central Florida. A number of us have nodes up and running, but we are somewhat spread out and RF linking between all of the nodes is not possible yet and I am wondering if for the outlying nodes that tunneling might be a short term fix until time, money and resources are available to rf link them all. Is there somewhere posted that I have not found yet that will tell us how to set up tunneling from beginning to end. Keep in mind that some of us have done a little programming, but we are really newbies at this stuff. Any help would be appreciated. By the way this group has been awesome with all of the info that is here and helped to get us off the ground.

I have found very nice small WIFI module which we can use in our BBHN/HamNET solution. ESP8266 is very powerful small module WIFI which we can use with form example Arduino to build mini weather station or other solution

You can red more about ESP8266 in following links

http://www.esp8266.com/wiki/doku.php?id=esp8266-module-family

http://rancidbacon.com/files/kiwicon8/ESP8266_WiFi_Module_Quick_Start_Guide_v_1.0.4.pdf

https://github.com/espressif
https://github.com/esp8266

For example ESP8266 version ESP-06/07/08 have 25 dBm power output and ESP-07 with external antenna connector

I ask support that firmware for ESP8266 will be have possibility use frequency from ham radio bandplan and I received positive replay that next release SDK will be have this possibility

Has anyone succeeded in using the Ubiquiti Bullet 2 (not M2) for Broadband Hamnet?

I have found a supply very cheaply if these work but time is of the essence.

Topic : Use of MicroTik hardware

Hi,

Miktorik use RouterOS which closed OS and you can not add own compiled packages like OLSRD etc.

In RouterOS you can use Mesh but is own solution by Mikrotik which is not compatible with others and in this way you must use only Mikrotik in you local network. Because we are ham radio and like make experiments with different topology, protocols solution in Miktorik for us is not good :-)

What is solution? and how to use OLSRD, Batman, Babel etc. Because in our country we can by used RB411, RB112 where price is about 12 $, I have replaced RouterOS with OpenWRT where I have modified driver ATH5K to work on hamradio bandplan and we can use RB411/RB433/RB112 on frequency between 2.3 Ghz and 2.48 Ghz and 5.6 Ghz in hamradio bandplan with WIFI card CM9, WMIA-123AG/E WMIA-165AG/E.

I  tried use Metrouter but I am not remember what kind of problems I had with metarouter on RouterOS

How to replace RouterOS with OpenWRT you can find on internet like:

https://blog.poettner.de/2011/05/27/openwrt-trunk-on-mikrotik-routerboard-411750/

After this you can use any protocols to make experiments with Mesh like OLSRD, Batman, BABEL etc

In Poland we use at current following hardware:

Ubiquiti M2/M5

Ubiquiti Nanostation2 and Nanostation5 and Loco version

TPlink like WR740, WA901, etc all with Atheros radio chipset

TPLink WA521G working nice with internal 12 dBi panel antenna and max power about 28 dBm

Mikrotik RB411/433, RB 112

At current we use OLSRD but I have test other Mesh protocol BABEL which look very promising compare to OLSRD.

You can find more information about BABEL:

http://www.pps.univ-paris-diderot.fr/~jch/software/babel/

Babel is available in OpenWRT

PS. SM7I and KF6PVT I have sned via email link to FW for mikrotik

Fixed part of the multi-post.

As soon as I can get my hands on a Microtik device, I'll start looking at how I can port BBHN over to the device.
