no changes needed on the node.

Just switch configuration for the vlans.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find something at work that will do the trick. Do any of the settings on the radio need to be changed, or will this work with the default setup?

Got it. I've been able to do it in my own lab environment: But it's a pain in the butt.

  1. turn them all off.
  2. power on one router
  3. on the setup page, change the channel, save, and reboot the router
  4. power the router down again
  5. Repeat 2-4 for each radio in the mesh.
  6. Turn them all back on again!

WiFi Radar confirms that they are all on the same, new channel.

Hi All. Managed to get the wrt54gsv4 sorted. Logon screen was all messed up. Original firmware was sourced off the net re flashed as a wrt54gsv4 then the mesh software was put on and it worked first time. I also had a similar problem with a wrt54g3g that had a version of coovap on it. Again original firmware was put back on the router the upgraded to the mesh. I now have 4 working units. Eddy.

Future vendors are being looked into as noted in the support announcement.

I don't know what vendor will be next, what I can say is the odds of a specific device/vendor are likely higher if someone whom has experiance with that hardware is willing to step up and test, submit patches for support changes (if needed) and test it out and lead the way for it similar to what happens with the Ubiquti gear.

Real world experience with the hardware is always an advantage over just picking a device.

So if anyone is willing to lead an effort now is a good time to consider volunteering.

And you'll be looking into developing BBHN firmware for Mikrotik hardware in the absence of Linksys right? :-)

You need a 802.1Q VLAN capable external switch.

Here's a link to a great article by AE5CA - http://ae5ca.com/?p=49

FYI, I picked up a new Netgear GS105E 5-port switch off Amazon for around $50

Topic : Ubiquity Rocket M2 Internet

I was able to borrow 3 Ubiquity Rocket M2s from work, and easily flashed them with the HSMM firmware and set them up in a 3 node mesh, using small wifi antennas and low power to experiment and learn within the confines of my house.  I would like to experiment with adding an internet gateway to facilitate remote updates and limited routing of services over the internet, possibly linking 2 dislocated mesh networks together.

Since the M2 only has a single ethernet port, I haven't been able to find a way to configure it for WAN access.  I also looked at the possibility of connecting it to router, but can't find a way to add routes to the routing table.

Can anyone help me out or give me some ideas.  As I say, I'm exploring the realm of the possible here, just to see the capabilities. I was going to try this with a WRT54G router, but since support for those will be ending, I'd like to focus on the Ubiquity product.

Thanks for the help,

Jeremy

The only way I've been able to do it with Linksys devices is to do them all at the same time. Which can be a tricky thing... you can't have any node running on channel 1 or they'll all go there. So you have to shut them all down and start changing them one at a time. Andre, K6AH

I made the change to channel 2 in web interface but it's not "sticking". The wifi scanner software I'm using says that all the units are still on channel 1. I'm looking at eBay now for Ubiquiti units. TNX ES 73e DE WB2IFS/3

Hey Jesse, You can use channels 1 through 6 in 2.4 GHz band... although channels 1 and 6 are the only two non-overlapping channels in the ham band. Andre, K6AH

You are likely hitting this issue that is noted in the release notes.

ALL Linksys WRT54G series devices (regardless of BBHN version) have a flaw in the on board RF module. This hardware module is closed source and not accessible to BBHN Developers.

Linksys nodes will hop from their assigned channel if they detect another node present running with the same SSID on a different channels at startup.

We we have also heard of it happening on roaming nodes so it may happen other times than just startup.

It is one of the many reasons I recomend Ubiquiti over Linksys

I've tried this and I'm getting questions about changing the RF channel from 1 to something else in the amateur band. I'm sure this has come up before but I was not able to find any clear answers.

When I attempted the change the channel using the web interface my wifi software tells me that it's still on channel 1 even though the interface indicates something else.

All:

Please help us maintain an efficient environment by keeping threads on topic and starting new threads for new discussions.

This is the developers forum for discussions BBHN Development related issues and this thread is specifically a Request For Feedback about the use of 5/10MHz Channels and the effect on SNR and LQ.

Topics need to stay on subject for the developers to be able to quickly find the information related to subjects they are researching, the assistance of all in keeping topics on subject will greatly increase the probability of developers receiving the information they need to enhance the BBHN builds.

Natively BBHN firmware does not yet support it. Other firmwares do. See this thread:
