Hi Bob I might have the opportunity to put up a node at Dixie and Burnhamthorpe, do we know if VE3MIS has coverage this way and which way should I point the antenna to get a link. I tried today with the stock antennas and got nothing. I might go pick up a 12bdi indoor directional and see if i can zero in on these mississauga nodes. Thanks Shawn

Topic : Why dosn't my web page service show up on other nodes?

I have three nodes set up on my farm that monitor and control everything from the greenhouse to the solar systems and equipment in the barn. Node 2 connects to an Arduino Uno programmed as a web server to monitor and control some greenhouse equipment where as node 3 uses a serial to ethernet link to an Allen Bradley SLC 5/03 PLC which oversees and logs quite a bit of day to day activity in both the greenhouse, barn and alternative power sources.

The attached photos show how I set up the port forwarding since it sounds very similar to your setup.

I took my node down in Pittsbur but I will put it back up to see if we can network. I dont live far away but line of site may be a problem. There are a few other hams in the area that can get nodes up. One is close to you Let me do a path analysis. How high is your antenna?

I ordered a grandstream on amazon and received a branded VOIP device. It was not advertised as such and was around $25. Be careful as these branded devices have costs supplemented and found for as low as $5. There are 'unlock' steps available and if anyone chooses to follow this route, be aware that if you allow the device out-of-box to connect to the internet, the default password is reset. There doesn't appear to be known unlock steps at this point...and I returned it. We have several of these HT701 grandstream ATAs on our mesh here in Southern CA with a beagleboard Astrisk PBX hosted by WA2KWR. We are looking at the Cisco CP-7940G full desktop IP phones for $35 + $12.50 ship--like 400x count available on ebay for this price right now. Joe AE6XE

It's not likely bricked, it's just that going into mesh_ap mode disables the dhcp server so you need to manually set your ip and log in to recover.

I just went through every document on the website the other day. You can find out which antenna is Right or Left by navigating to FAQ --> Hardware FAQs --> 7. Antenna's Right and Left.

However...The WRT54G3G only has one antenna. If you leave it on diversity the device will select the antenna that has the strongest strength...and since there is only one, it will select the only antenna.* Alternatively, you can try to figure out which antenna selection it is.

Left/Right are the single selections in Linsksys, diversity is both antennas at once. It's documented in the guides somewhere here on the site which port corresponds to each name.

My testing has been with an antenna and dummy load and you can indeed see a signal level decrease when you go to the dummy load antenna.

Hi Andy. Also running a 3g. Signal strength seems fine when looked at from another node so I guess there is not a problem.

Hi All

I think most or all Ubiquity have this safeguard built into them.

-----

I just blew up my 900MHz NanoStation loco M900 by connecting it to 48 volts.  OOPS...

I removed what I believe is a Zener diode and the unit came back to life.

Thank you Ubiquity for installing this protection.

After some research I fount the replacement.

It is a Little Fuse part number SMCJ24A

It is a transient clamping sacrificial diode.

It shorts when parameters are exceeded

I just order 10 through Mouser to have in stock

Cost is about $0.50 each

Hope fully this will help some folks

Paul

It can't hurt, and I did do mine just out of general practice. If they are on 3.0.0rc1 I wouldn't worry that much on it in this particular case, especially if the node is hard to get to.

Literally the only change between 3.0.0rc1 and 3.0.0 is a change to the version.  This isn't to say this will always be the case on a release candidate build, just that in this case rc1 is exactly the same as the a stable release.  If it's one of the 3.0.0b builds (beta compared to release candidate) than absolutely upgrade as it wasn't until RC1 we put the last fix in to fix stability issues found in the 1.1.x builds.

I have a Ubiquitit Nanostation M5 with the XW hardware version that is currently incompatible with MESH-HAMNET firmware.  Any idea when we might see something that we can test or use?

Awesome!  So I assume I should change all of my units to the 3.0.0 production version?

3.0.0rc1 is the same as 3.0.0 which is now a stable release.

Last week we updated the firmware on some Linksys WRT54G v.2 units to 3.0.0rc1 BETA, but now I cannot find it in the firmware download area.  Can someone supply a link to it or send it to me?

Thanks, Shawn, I'll update my modeling info. We hope to have something up before Christmas, weather permitting. It'll be a V3 system.

Hi Ron This sounds great I am a member of the Burlington club so let me see if I can't talk the membership into getting a link between hamilton and oakville set up. The Burlington repeaters are located NW corner of Dundas and Brant street. I do not know of anything at Kerns rd that's a ways west of the actual site. Shawn

Hi, Folks;

The Hamilton Amateur Radio Club is working on putting a hub on our repeater site on the escarpment. If we beat the snow, this site will basically be an evaluation site, with 4 Nanostations aimed in the four cardinal directions. The site is near the intersection of Fennel and upper Gage, at a height above ground of about 75 meters.

If the evaluatiion goes well, we'll upgrade in the spring to a sectored broadcast node bridged to a point to point backbone.

The modelling I've done with Radio Mobile indicates there should be a viable link from this site to the Burlington repeater site at Kerns' Rd. and Dundas St. (is it still there?) Further east to Oakville or Mississauga may be possible with dual dishes and diversity.

We're also going to be running some workshops during the winter, a couple of Thursdays a month, to build up some user skills in using nodes. Anyone is welcome, watch our web site for announcements:
