Yeah, it's a bummer. There are way too many devices here for me to change the entire subnet from a 10.x network just for the mesh. As far as DNS goes, I would have thought that by putting in the domain and router info for each interface, it would fix that, but for some reason, no.

The issue of having two networks with overlapping subnets is an issue WAY below the DNS layer. DNS has no relevance on the issue. Also the reason for a full. 10.x segment is that it's designed to be used in isolation (we are using it in isolation) and having. 2^24 address space matches up with fairly unique data set size to avoid IP address collisions.

Ultimately the fact you are running a network that conflcts with the mesh address space mean you will always have to loose some access to the full mesh

Theoretically (assuming mac lets you, I know the BSD base does) You can set the port with the. 10.19.n.n network to always route 10.19.* out that port and route the rest of the 10.n.n.n address space out to the mesh.  You will loose all access to mesh 10.19.* hosts.  All a matter of route setting commands and priority levels.

I wouldn't recommend a deployment like that for an emcom network due to the fact it would not be fully reachable.

I have a Mac pro with two ethernet ports. I have a mesh node on one, and my regular network on the other. IP range of the regular network is 10.19.x.x Unfortunately, routing is a problem since the developers chose the entire 10.x.x.x net. I am trying to figure out how to use the mesh on one port in harmony with the other. I have tried changing the DNS entries for the individual ports, but that's not working, and the fact that they screwed up by cutting local.mesh out of the FQDN does not help. Any idea how I can get this to work? Thanks

Thank heavens for this thread! With your help, I was able to successfully re-deploy my obsolete WRT54G3G-ST router in the service of ham radio!

I had tried flashing it with the standard issue WRT54G3G bin file but "upgrade failed". Once I put in the first four bytes as "W3GS" using GHEX (ubuntu Linux 12.04), it went perfectly.

If this is a Linksys node it is likely BBHN->ticket:55 which had already been discussed in the rest of the forum.

Both can see each other. I have a friend on the way over with his node to see if it's a problem just with my 2nd router.

I am assuming both mesh nodes can see each other. What are your mesh nodes using (NAT or Host Direct)? Do you have another router available (say...node 3), that you can try? It could be a node-specific issue.

You can try following my friend's steps (method I used) at http://www.qsl.net/bars click on MESH on the left side and then Servers. John W3RC

I knew I was missing a step. I'll look into shutting down DHCP on the Bullets and let the Linksys be the master DHCP for the site. Currently we have about 12-14 UBNT devices on our mesh. Thanks for the help Conrad!! John W3RC

You are likely seeing BBHN->ticket:59 where the olsr shuts down depending upon number of nodes in network.

In addition only one node can have a DHCP server running on a LAN.

If you power up a second node after one is already running and they are connected together already the onboard DHCP server detects that another dhcp server is already running and will not issue dhcp addresses I till rebooted.  If you used static addressing you should be able to access it directly.  This is more likely than the node dying.

Topic : DTDLink Co-located nodes

Greetings all-

We've been playing around here with a bunch of nodes and recently at our repeater site, we've installed a Grid and Omni on the tower. I've seen the info regarding DTD Linking and figured with our setup that would be a better approach to tying the nodes together instead of RF.

Here's our setup: BulletM2 on 24dBi grid and BulletM2 on 9dBi Omni. In the shack we have a WRT54. I added patch cables from the Bullets' POEs and plugged them into Ports 3 & 4 on the Linksys.

Under current neighbors I see the nodes via RF and dtdlink. I've seen that traffic has passed via DTD as ETX numbers have came down considerably. However, it seems doing this crashes the nodes into non-existence after a short time (the Bullets are not even accessible even when directly connected to my laptop). Am I missing something in the whole scheme of DTD (ie., should we just be using L2 switches to tie the devices in or disable something in the Linksys or something on the Bullets)?? From all I've read it seems like all we should have to do is connect Ethernet together and go.

TIA,

John W3RC

I tried to set a Web server on the mesh but I can't get it to pass port 80 through the Bullet.  The service gets advertised OK but the port won't open.  I also tried the DMZ option but still nothing.  It works fine on the LAN.  Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?

Topic : problem setting up VOIP node 2

So I again plugged the phone up on node 1 and was able to call the phone also attached to node 1. No issues with the phone activating on the network. But when moved to node 2 it says initializing network and will not get an IP address from the router. What I'm attempting to do is have two phones at the house. Node 1 is in the garage (attached to the PBX serve) and node 2 is located in the garage

Both phones are Linksys SPA922. I have a PC and WAN Port. I have been using the WAN on both phones. I can take the phone I'm having problems with and connect it to node 1 and it will work fine. It has to be something with the node 2 router.

Couple quick questions...What phone are you using? Are you using the correct RJ-45 jack on the back of the phone? Usually there are two jacks and one allows Ethernet pass-through. Have more than X devices (where X is from the X Host Direct) been plugged into the device at any particular time?

While setting up my pbx ive ran into a problem.  Phone 1 is set up to a node attached to the PBX server.  Phone 2 is set up on node 2 in the office.  While trying to configure phone 2 I can not get the router to give a IP Lease to the phone so I can add it.  If I plug into a computer it will show it but not the phone.  I swapped phones around and still get the same problem.  Any help would me appreciated.

AE5CA Thank you so much for that! Lessons learned: When I had my laptop wired even to the MAP, it was the DHCP serer in the Mesh Node, not the AP, that was giving my laptop the address, so the 172 addresses were not really visible from my laptop. Switching to a static address solved that problem, and I was able to access the AP again. Once more, Thanks!
