Is anyone planning on having a HSMM 2.4 GHz node up in the fleamarket area this year? I have a Bullet I could put on a short mast if there will be some other activity. Dave, K7DMK

The Bullets are not supported by our code. They'll need to be M2 versions. I can't speak to the tp-link device.

A note: hsmm-mesh is an older SSID. Users are currently being told that if they see this id they should not expect to be able to mesh to it with latest versions of the software. Conversely if someone has this ID as default it means they are running a older version of the software that doesn't speak to the versions 1.0.0 and above. Recommend you consider using the default BroadbandHamnet-v1 SSID. Or at lead add a -v1 to the end to quantify it's a 1.0.0 and up build. Hope you find some other nodes locally! |

I have a 360' view to point nodes. I just dont know Were other users are with in LOS. This is a general call out to others with intrest in establishing LOS links around the East bay, High peeks in SF, Tresure Island, along the coast, to the North bay/mout Tam. Routing and DNS across the WAN port
I personally have done just that (have a Mesh cam be able to be seen from the internet), but I did porting tricks with the webserver (this same one we are typing into right now) to make it happen. Its the live cam view at the bottom of the Tower Cam Over Mesh page under Applications menu (and yes, the live view is broke at the moment, but I am looking to fix that right now). It is NOT a simple task to get initially setup. Definitely something I wouldnt want to do over the phone, email, or forums. Maybe a VNC remote in to a PC on the mesh on the other side, but nothing short of that. Conrad, that would be cool if there was something in the GUI to turn that on. I may look at that for the Linksys side (I am getting ready for Maker Faire Saturday though...) Happy Meshing! Jim K5KTF

Routing and DNS across the WAN port
What is meant by 'one way' is that you can't access the full mesh from the WAN port and never will be able to (network isolation).
If you have some Linux skills you can actually do a 'port forward' manually. in the firewall configs (exact settings depend on if its a Ubiquiti or Linksys build) (A DNAT+SNAT is suggested due to multiple gateways) to forward to an IP address on the MESH that isn't connected directly to the local node.
This is actually the 2nd time this subject has come across my desk this week. Might be something we consider as a feature request for the GUI in a future release if the need is seen.
[KE5RON 2014-05-01- 14:38:52]: This (below) is something several of us are struggling with. I've read numerous posts from different people trying to solve this same problem. I've been reading everything on this that I can find and I have yet to find anything that explains sufficiently how to get to devices on the mesh from outside. Several of us on here are trying to do simple things like access cameras on the mesh from computers outside. Several of us keep trying everything we can to get this to work but we seem to be lacking some key piece of information. Who knows the answer?
[wx5u 2014-02-18- 17:18:39]: Also, the gateway is "one way" only. Stuff on the LAN or mesh can get to the WAN side, but access to the LAN or mesh from the WAN side is very limited.

NTP from local PC with Windows 8.1?
Time is set by the /etc/init.d/ntpclient script This script tried to resolve us.pool.ntp.org every 60 seconds to get a time set You can modify the script to point to your PC or you can just run ntpclient manually as shown in that script.
(self note: we really should change thay it is a bit abusive on the global pool servers ) |

NTP from local PC with Windows 8.1?
I have got Windows NTP server going under Windows 8.1 on an HP laptop. I have opened port 123 for both input and output. But neither of my WRT54GL mesh nodes get the time from the server when directly connected to the node.
Both nodes appear to work correctly. It would be nice for the nodes to know the actual real time, even without an Internet connection or a directly connected GPS .
My Linux knowledge is rusty so I, and doubtless many other new users, would appreciate seeing a few postings of code used for things people have connected. 73, Graham ZL3GSL

Questions
Issues I see:
1) the WAN and LAN networks can not share the same address space (on the BBHN node) 2) the DD-WRT advanced routing you appear to be telling the DD-WRT to go out via the vlan wan port to reach the network which would conflict with your LAN.
As mentioned a lot of using dd-wrt as a swart switch depends on what hardware you have dd-wrt running on. Example: on a wrt54 you can actually control each individual port and it basically becomes a 'smart switch' with a router. while on some other hardware ALL ports have to share the same configuration. (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/VLAN_Support)
Lets take a step back
What exactly is the setup you are trying to accomplish? What do you want people to be able to do and not be able to do on this setup?
[kb3zto 2014-05-01- 12:12:59]: Hey KG6JEI,
Ya that's what I am afraid of with having to use the switch. I would like to use a router because if someone wanted one of these at their place, they could use the wifi and it would be a lot cheaper than a $55 switch and another access point for wifi.
When you say disabling WAN on the node, what do you mean that it can use the LAN for GW? Would it recognize the router's internet connection on 192.168.9.1? If I do use the WAN on the Node, what do it's IP settings have to be?
From what you can see on the DD-WRT settings, what there looks like it might be setup wrong? I still need to ask the DD-WRT people about it but would like some input from you as well.
I would like to avoid any configuration on the computers on the LAN because that way anyone's computer would work fine with it and not have to be setup by me first.
Thanks for the help. |

High level instructions:
Add a static route entry for 10.0.0.0/8 to go out via the wired port.
You may also need to do dns changes and other network related changes on your pc (see other posts in the forum) to get dns resolution to work, but by IP address should always work. |

Multiple networks
I connect to my Mesh router using an Ethernet cable connected to my laptop. The laptop connects to my home network and hence to the internet using the WiFi port on my laptop. I find that I cannot be connected to both networks at the same time. What I would like to do is for my browser session connected to the Mesh to connect only to the mesh node through the Ethernet cable and for all other network connections to take place using the WiFi port thus allowing me to be connected to both networks at the same time. How do I make this happen?

Updating Router does not allow re-loading of Mesh Firmware
I uploaded the mesh firmware to my WRT54GS V2 and had the mesh working smoothly. Noticed some differences in menu presentations with another mesh experimenter in the area related to publishing a service. I noticed the file on the website that claimed to be used to "upgrade an existing mesh node." The result was not what I expected. My router is now running Linksys software (appears to be a late version) and I cannot re-load the mesh. I attempted to load mesh software for WRT54GS (What I had previously loaded) and also WRT54GS_V4. Neither succeeds.
Suggestions?
