Check your port forwarding on the serving machine. You need to ensure that your remote client is connection via a port that is forwarded on the server.
On another note, using TS3 is brilliant. Thanks for this stroke of inspiration!
[N7FV 2012-06-06- 12:49:56]:
KC7NEC: I followed your instructions and setup a TS3 Server. Got the server up and running. I can login using localhost on the pc with the serve on it. I cannot however connect using another computer connected to the mesh. Could it be a windows7 homegroup issue? Thanks |

Sorry for the late post. What were you using as an antenna? We pointed the 24 db dish in your direction. Dave

Now the mesh is growing. We already have a few nodes in northern Malmö as well as the village of Bara. Next out are a few more nodes in the city of Malmö as well as a few in the vincinity of Ystad. Also nodes in Stockholm area will connect soon.
The first service to be offered will most probably be a DX cluster and more will come.
Now we roll !!! |

I just purchased a WRT54G v2 on eBay for $3 plus shipping. $12 in total. There are many more still on eBay. |

Greetings from AF5HH
The map of nodes was very helpful, as I ended up finding KF5GAH in my neighborhood. He loaned me a GL (in addition to my GS). Interesting conversation and great to meet hams face-to-face. I will try my darndest to attend Digital Wednesday this month.

Tunneling and olsr questions
I understand that tunneling is in the works. My question is how does it work? Does the tunneling work via the WAN port and uses olsr to exchange endpoint information? Does olsr work on the wireless side only? Does olsr work on DMZ ip addresses? Is it possible to use external hardware to link hsmm nodes?
Many questions. Any insight would be appreciated.

Greetings from AF5HH
I got my hands on an unused router over the weekend and thought I'd give HSMM a go. It is all set up, and now I'm looking for an antenna to use it with and a reason to deploy it.
I'm near 360 & 2222 and look forward to trying this out and learning a bunch.

Sounds great! Build it and they will use it......hopefully! Keep up the good work. Go to club meetings and hamfests and promote this project.

Installing packages and port forwarding
Actually, my situation was for a tftp server installed on the mesh ap. I want that service to stay local to the ap. When I configured a DMZ IP, the tftp port was forwarded to the DMZ host. |

Power Setting
I too would like to increase the power of my WRT54GL slightly to +21 dbm or about 125 mw. I remember reading someone's test results that showed at +21 dbm, the router still produced a clean output signal with no overheating problems.
Is there any way of entering the command line level of the HSMM-Mesh/Linux firmware to read and set the output power of the router? |

RI MESH meeting
I'm thinking it would be a good idea for us to meet in person soon to coordinate installing our first HSMM nodes and we need to work out the details for doing a presentation / demo or two that are being planed for the first week of Aug. Edit update: We are meeting to discuss HSMM-MESH RI (and nearby MA and CT) Sunday, July 7 at 5 pm for dinner
Gregg's Restaurants & Pub

Providence metro W9GYR status update
That is definitely Plan A. I'm going to borrow a couple of directional antennas which I think are about 14 dBi and I found a good price on an omni that is 9 dBi. I'll run some tests on those in the next week or two to see how they compare. BTW, I found the info at http://hsmm-mesh.org/documentation/124-antennas-and-amps.html very useful. Thanks for the notes, it helpful to learn the details of what has worked well for others.
[K5KTF 2013-07-03- 09:00:41]: That sounds great! But I would advise to try with just the antennas first. Throwing amps around before even trying to see if you have a good connection just raises the noise floor. I dont want to come off crass, but this stuff is not like HF/VHF where you can throw an amp on and it does better by default. If you cant get any link with just antennas, adding an amp may not work any better. Use better antennas first off. Maybe raise the antenna higher if possible.
We do 10 miles shots across the Austin Texas metro area, to include the University of Texas campus (small city in itself), WITHOUT ANY AMPLIFIERS. And we get a solid link.
We have one link here, CPRMC to 3M, where we get a link, but is real weak (lots of things in the Fresnel zone). We know we are aimed properly and CAN get a connection, but with the weak sigs, about a 20% connection rate, we will add a 1/2 W BDA to one end and see how that improves the link. If it gets up to 60-70%, then we may move to a 1W BDA. If we get a 95% connection rate, then 1/2W it will stay. Overpowering microwaves does not gain you anything if you cant hit it at all naturally. Just heats air molecules and wastes electrons. But definitely post your results! We would love to hear about it.
