I kept re-booting both the lap top and router, now we are in fine.
But, and color me stupid, I named the device n6kzb-100 and created a password, but I can not get into setup now. I guess the User Name is not n6kzb-100 or I missed it and am stuck. I have tried resetting the router, but to no avail.

Unable to go to localnode after HSMM update to WRT54G
Looked at the posted material so far but did not find an answer. I followed the instructions on uploading the firmwaare for this model router. It uploaded fine. However the next steps indicated RUN CMD IPCONFIG RELEASE ETC ETC. Did this but never saw the correct response as indicated in the PDF install document. I am on Windows 7 64 router is vers 4.0 sn cdfaoe7j8886 I am unable to get to localnode:8080 nor back into the router to try again.
Any hints? Thanks

I wish all this discussion was taking place HERE on the HSMM-MESH forums, but I think the CAPCHA thing for each and every login is irritating people. Maybe a cookie approach might work, I understand the need, because of idiots trying to advertise garbage, etc but there has to be a better way.

Las Vegas HSMM-Mesh
Howdy do, Dan. I'm not in Vegas, but about 65 miles to the NE of you in little old Overton. Wanna do some meshing DX? :D
I've been waiting for someone to put the wrt54g on the ham map, so am really psyched about this. I'm not geek enough to code the wares myself, but come from geek stock enough to figure out the implementation. I'm a wardriver/warhiker from way back, so am definitely liking what I'm reading about this. I already was looking into 2.4Gc band when I read about this on the zed. I have a wrt I was going to flash with dd for a personal hamnet for highspeed out in the boonies, but this mesh stuff looks perfecto...
Anyway, this is to say that I'd like to mesh up our little valley out here one way or another. Perhaps once things mature and others join in, a higher power link with Vegas would be neat. Our club takes care of Beacon Hill, which is the middle link between y'all and Mesquite for 2m/70cm/23cm phone among other things. It would be a grand site for some such eventuality for 2.4Gc perhaps... So please don't forget us out here as you jumpstart Vegas.
I grok the suggestion that this has the potential to attract a lot of younger hams... Really, it could revolutionise ham radio. Forget HT's. Just give every high school science club a dozen wrt's! Heck, two dozen. They are cheap as dirt and it's fun to make microwave antennas...
I'd love to qso about this with anyone. If you do 2m, please log into our Moapa Valley peater net on 147.39 at 1930 local some Thursday. I'm also on APRS, Winlink, and hang out on 40, 30, 20m psk31. My call at gmail dot com works, too.

Tested yesterday at St. Mary's Hospital parking garage. Was there for over an hour.
Saw 8 wifi-sites. Could not see the Red Cross. I was using the Omni-Directional. |

CAT5 cables from ground to top of tower
Since most of us hams are "cheap", in that spirit, I would suggest U/V resistant split loom. We're not worried about moisture at that level, mostly just sunlight degradation of the cat5 insulation. Using split loom would eliminate that as far as I can tell. |

My thoughts on this are, a small battery, solar panel, and charge controller.
All these units are 12v (+-) and small 12v solar panels and a gel cell should be sufficient for the low power that is involved.
This would be great for nodes that are filling space in-between the mesh rather than connected nodes. If you're connecting a computer to it anyway, might as well run power up there. HOWEVER. if you have LONG runs, like up a tower, the solar option might be better due to the losses you will find with ethernet. |

I like the FAB corp stuff, been using it for years. Did a 10 mile link t my Mom's house using 2 24dB magnesium dishes. no amp.
Of course that was years ago, before being saturated with 2.4Ghz traffic.
This is another reason I think it's important for MESHers to mod their APs to use amateur frequencies. Not only to cut down on QRM, but to help eliminate unwanted guests... |
