Topic : Low Level Diagnostics that work on Linksys & Ubiquiti

I'm looking for something like "badblocks",  very low level to test as much of the hardware as possible.

I have a few Linksys that seem to have some issues, memory, flash, etc.

Topic : Cannot PUTTY into WRT54GS V4 with 3.1.0

I flashed my GS V4 with 3.1.0 and when I try to Putty into it, it hangs with a message "SSH-2.0-dropbear_0.50"   Tftp'ed it several times.  Same results. Is my 54GS v4 corrupted or is the hardware

bad?

It seems to work as a mesh node just fine and if I have the WAN port connected to my home network, everything works.

The TFP flash worked. Just had to hit the 1/2 second window. I let it completely finish, then rebooted.

I know the 54GS V4 is very limited. Is there anything else I can try?

BTW: I have a 54GS V1 and it works fine with putty, etc. It is set up as a VTUN Client,

KB5NFT-MOBILE54GSV1 in case you want to let me tunnel into your nodes, just for look and see.

Topic : IRC (Chat) Software Location?

When I try to download the ngIRCd ver 20.2 package, the node just sits there and does nothing. I found this website that has LOADS of different versions of ngIRCd IRC chat server software: http://arthur.barton.de/pub/ngircd/ I don't want to screw around with the .z and .tz compression software, so I'm just going to use the older 'ngircd_18_mipsel.ipk' file that I have. Tried and proven.

The netgear GS105E and GS108E's are also good and inexpensive. Stay away from the TP-LINK switches.

I have successfully used Cisco 2940 8 port switches in multiple locations for BBHN.

I have picked them up off of ebay and other sources off the web for about $25 a pop.

Thanks for the info. I've seen the discussion elsewhere but it did not trigger understanding on my part at that time. Any particular model of "smart" switch you'd recommend? For this particular application?

You will need a smart switch, not a WRT. WAN is accesses over VLAN1. This diagram may help. http://www.aredn.org/content/device-device-linking-dtdlink

Also, I am running a NanoBeam NBE-M5-19 (XW) successfully. These look like nice devices. Good luck with your deployment.

I could not find a better place to ask my question than here... hope nobody minds. I have a friend in Ottawa, Canada planning to set up a couple of nanobeams but he also wants to tunnel down to me here in Arizona. Does he need to get a WRT54GS as well? From what little I know of the M5 it has only one ethernet port. Can the WAN/LAN be handled using just the one port? And are the ones that Amazon is offering compatible? We have a nanobridge m5 at provolt in Provo but we could try it at dc801 downtown. Nothing to point it at of course and almost no one else uses 5ghz.

I agree that various camera manufacturers have their desired programs to setup and view the video from their product. But the open source community has alternatives which get the job done.

Is there any information available on minimum distances between a mesh node and mesh access point?

Topic : NanoStation Loco M2 problem

I finally figured it out. I had set a static ip to 192.168.1.2 as the instructions told me to. Today I realized that the node provides DHCP, so I set it to obtain the IP automatically, and then did an ipconfig, and found out that the ip is 10.38.39.201 and I was able to connect immediately. So everything was working just fine, I just had to think about it a bit.

btw, the RED led indicates that this node has found/connected to at least one other mesh node.

This is what I get when I click on the Nano-001 node thru my T001 node. This webpage is not available ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED Isn't the T001 node supposed to be supplying the DNS functionality? Or am I mistaken?

I've unplugged, multiple times. Its acting like the nano has a different ip address completely. I named it KK6HRJ-Nano-001 and my Linksys node is KK6HRJ-T001. The T001 node can see the Nano-001 node no problem, 100% signal since they are 5 ft apart. If I click t he Nano-001 thru my T001 mesh node I get a message, web page is unavailable.

unplug/replug your network cable to get your PC to acquire a new IP address.
