Im talking within the BBHN code.. I know, probably a PITA for the DEV team. But allowing both ip4 and ip6, even if just on the WAN port would solve my problem with Comcast blocking pings. 

I can't install VTUN, and my node that's setup as an Internet gate, well, isn't.. All because it can't ping wherever it needs to. 

It was late, didnt feel like going the 3 miles to the next open convenience store, so I suffered, and in the process broke the dang thing.

The real problem was, 2 days later when they mention it was broke, I couldnt remember what I had done in the first place.

Until tonight when I ran a test which failed but pointed me to the problem.

Someday I will learn to count in sequence

My home network won't pass IPv6 traffic but here's an example:

I've recently joined building up a mesh network in the Ottawa/Ont/Can area, which includes

We use a variety of Ubitquiti Airmax M products on 2.4 and 5.8GHz: Loco M2 and M5,
Bullet M2 and Nanobeam M5 (which I understand used to be called Nanobridge before a product
renaming which causes some confusion...)

We also use some WRT54s but find them limited in performance/function. Services on the mesh
also use Raspberry Pi's with WFii dongles and others.

Specifically regarding the new H/W issue for Ubiquiti: which hardware is known to be
affected by the XW/XM issue...I gather so far Nanobeam M5 and NanoStation M5/Loco M5,
(and M2?) are there others we should know about?

Some things to check:

- Make sure the computer's wireless (WiFi etc.) is turned off.

- Unplug the Ethernet cable to the node for 10 or 15 seconds so the computer will get a new IP when you plug the cable back in.

- Reboot the computer with the cable attached if it still didn't get a 10.xxx IP.

- if still no 10.xxx IP then check computer to make sure it is not set for a static IP (must be set obtain an IP from a DHCP server).

- If it does get a 10.xxx IP but you still can't connect, try http://localnode.local.mesh:8080 or http://nodename.local.mesh:8080

- If the DHCP Server "box" on the node Setup screen somehow got unchecked, use another node to connect to that one and log into Setup to check the box. and Save Changes.

A member donated a WRT54G V2.2 Serial#CDF70DB34340 for our club to play with mesh.

I flashed it to bbhn-3.1.0-wrt54g-2.4-squashfs.bin

I attempted to access the setup page as instructed via cabled Ethernet on my desktop which has no wifi adapter, but could not connect.

I found the WiFi meshnode node on my tablet and successfully completed setup wirelessly.

I can now see the BroadbandHamnet-20-v3 SSID on my tablet. (I know I can't connect.)

Next I connected an Ethernet cable from my desktop NIC to one of the WRT LAN ports.

I can not connect to http://localnode:8080, the connection in my browser times out.

"ipconfig /reset" from an Admin command line reports an error: "unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

My IP computer IP address does not change from 192.168.1.100 to the 10.x.x.x range so it is not getting DHCP from the WRT54G.

How Come I Can’t See anything From Your Camera?

 One thing I have noticed is the wide variety of IP cameras available (often at very good sale prices). The problem is that often a special driver or manufacturer software package is needed to view the video in your browser.

A while ago I bought a Tenvis IPRobot3 which produces 720P HD, a very nice camera but the output is MPEG-4, H.264 which is not supported by many browsers without installing Quicktime.

After poking around the bbhn network that became available to me when I set up a vtun client, using Google Chrome on a Win7 laptop, I found several cameras online:

Foscam which required me to install IPCWebComponents.exe

Foscam HD IP which required the Foscam HD Plugin from the Chrome web store

AirVision which required the install of InstallCamCliCtrl.msi

JPEG which required Java

MPEG4 H264 which required Quicktime

There are probably more out there and luckily when you try to connect and don’t have the correct browser helper app or plugin, there is a clickable link to take you to the site where it can be downloaded.

But what if you don’t have internet access at the time? What if you have just set up a mesh network with several different cameras (possibly for a hamfest display where everyone brings their own equipment, or possibly for a public service event or ARES event) and find that some of the computers you plan on using don’t have the browser and different plugins needed? What if the “served agency” is using their computers and only their IT department can install new apps (this is common).

 Maybe a USB stick could be carried around with all the different programs that may be needed (assuming they can be installed on the computer) but don’t forget the documentation on how to make each plugin work on each browser. Some just work, but I had to tell Google Chrome to automatically allow Quicktime to run when I clicked on a MPEG4 link, and I had to tell both Chrome and Java (and reboot the computer) to allow me to display video from the JPEG video link.

To further confuse the issue, many hams (myself included) still have some computers with XP which is no longer supported by the latest versions of Java, or Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer. And what about the people using Linux, or Apple computers?

Just curious, Have you tried to set your PC to a static 10.x.x.x IP (take a wild stab) and the Subnet mask to 255.0.0.0? I doubt it would work, but worth a try, while waiting for the UPS guy to arrive. without DNS, it would be hard to try and hit any of the nodes, if you dont know their IP's.

Maybe by doing that, the IP-scanner might have better luck finding one (255x255x255). If it DOES find an active 10.x.x.x IP, remember to increment your PC by one in the static setup for a good chance.

Also, try rebooting the one that had the WAN static, plug your PC into it, and set your PC static one IP addy off from it, with an appropriate subnet (255.0.0.0 works for all). You might only be able to SSH into it via the WAN, but then you could see the 10 IP (ifconfig) and set your PC accordingly.

Let us know here how it turns out! I know I am quite curious.

This has SOLD. Turns out I have more nodes then I need. I have a spare Motorola WR850G node that isn't being used. It is fully functional and has BBHN 3.0 Firmware installed.

These typically go for around $13 on Amazon plus $5 for shipping.

Comedic title aside, I had three well functioning nodes running as a small tribe and was cleaning up some options one node at a time remotely. I had tested services, hamchat, remote cameras, wan access, meshing and unmeshing and everything worked just fine. I thought I had turned off the DHCP switch on two of the nodes, leaving the third one on but in my zeal I turned all three off and rebooted them all. Now I have three nodes that seem quite content to talk to each other but not me.

I can turn them on and off via power and from past behavior of the led's the nodes seem to find each other and chat away happily ( probably laughing at me I suspect ) but I can no longer connect to any of them. Only one had WAN enabled and it was static... though I can't get it to respond any more. I can even connect two wifi computers to each other via the Mesh wifi network itself but that's it but I can't access the mesh itself via a non-mesh computer. I'm assuming that's a good thing and if so it works well here.

All three nodes ignore my pleas via an IP spider that runs for hours scanning the LAN and WAN ports but so far has not found the current address of these three runaways. And since the addresses span multiple subnets and are derived from the Mac addresses, which I also cannot see, the time it takes to scan possibilities across multiple subnets is like watching paint dry. And as productive.

So, while I wait for yet another node to arrive from eBay to use to get back into the Mesh network... does anyone have any other ideas?  They are all WRT54G V2 models, running 3.1.0 and Hamchat 0.1 in 5 host mode.

It seem's IPlvl4 pings are blocked on Comcast, but IPlvl6 pings go through no problem. 

Is there a way to use IPlvl6 with BBHN??
