Topic : Inquiry about Possible Mesh Neting in Washtenaw County

Hi Everyone!, :)

I am considering buying a Linksys router to set up a mesh node in Superior Twp., MI.

I was just curious if anyone had already or was going to setup a mesh node anywhere near me in Washtenaw or any of the near surrounding counties (Livingston, Jackson, Wayne, Oakland, Lenawee, and Monroe etc.)??

Any information on this would be most appreciated! :)

That was it. At the EOC during training, I didn't have it connected to the internet. Now, to learn how to manually set the clock.

That happens when the node clock isn't set. It will set itself if you can arrange a connection to the internet, or you could SSH into the node and manually set it with the 'date' command. That drove me nuts until I noticed that if the node I had Hamchat on was also an internet gateway it didn't happen.

From what we have observed you cannot really use (near) omni-directional antennas on 2.4 GHz as there is so much noise which renders the node near useless.

So we are beginning to look at 5 GHz.  I am seeking antenna advice from anyone who has anything going on 5 GHz.

Looking to some sort of sector antenna.  I'd like to hear what other people have.  Thanks.

During some training today, we were using HamChat, and noticed that all new posts were appearing in the middle of the screen, between older posts, and not top down or bottom up. Is there something I could tweak to fix that? I would prefer that all new post appear at the bottom.

You help greatly appreciated.

We have some Linksys units that are not compatible with the mesh firmware. Is there a way to turn them into digitpeaters for other nodes?

Or you can download it from here: http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/download/attitude_adjustment/12.09/ar71xx/generic/packages/hamchat_0.1_all.ipk

The download page is the one that looks similar to what Darryl has shown. I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction! :)

You can also download the latest version 0.1.1-4 from here:

http://downloads.aredn.org/attitude_adjustment/12.09/ar71xx/generic/packages/hamchat_0.1.1-4_ar71xx.ipk

Then, upload it to your node.

Hmmm.  Well, that assumes that the node has Internet access.  That's not a good assumption.

Previous postings said the package was on the software download page.  What happened to it?

Also, the BBHN downloads page contains an <IFRAME> which is why you are seeing scroll bars within the page.

The HamChat package is not on the LinkSys or Ubiquiti software download pages.  I'm interested in the Ubiquiti version.

Also, can someone get rid of the scroll window on the software download page?  Scrolling the web page, then scrolling the scroll box is a bit ridiculous.

Thanks,

Michael, N6MEF

Topic : DTD linking on WRT54Gx

Any recommendations on how to make DTD-linking work on WRT54 running 3.1.0 mesh
firmware? We found these won't talk to Ubiquiti nodes (Bullet, Loco) on wired LAN
either through a dumb ethernet switch, or directly.

I'm thinking it might be related to WRT's internal VLANs e.g. VLAN0 on the LAN ports.
I'm not really a S/W guy, would need some specific instructions.

This would be useful for local crossbanding e.g. 5.8G down to 2.4G with WRTs
around the house.

Thanks, Dave

Is there a listing of Tunnel Servers somewhere?

I've got my client running and am looking to try it out.

Maybe someone in Texas?

We will have a booth at Hamvention as well as 2G and 5G active mesh links.

There will also be a presentation at one of the forums.  Details to follow.

http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/documentation/199-bbhnv3-release-notes tells all about 900Mhz

Look in the forums on for 802.1Q switches for doing DtD (Device to Device) linking of multiple band nodes. Using a switch, you can connect a 2.4, 3.4, 5.8 and 900 nodes over cable and make a cross-band site.

Is there any thing on the forums on how to bridge 900 mhz to 2.4 ghz. Is there also any firmware for 900 mhz routers?

make up 2 nodes, one on each SSID, and CAT5 them together (DtD link). We do it all the time for testing purposes...
