I was able to do some testing and found my calls were also being dropped after a random amount of time ranging from 14 seconds to 90 seconds. I was able to correct the problem by adjusting the ports being forwarded to the Raspberry. 

Below is a screenshot of my settings.

Hi Phil KA1PXZ,

To get a packet capture you will need to install software on your computer. There are lots of different programs out there but the two most popular for Windows systems are Wire Shark and Ethereal. Both programs have plenty of documentation to show you how to use them. Once you have one installed and understand how to use it you will need to start the packet capture and then place a phone call with the intention of repeating the error. Then save the packet capture and upload it so somebody who knows more than I do, can take a look at it.

As for the NAT, if you can already place and receive calls from phones that are connected to different nodes this should not be an issue as the initial connection (call) was successful. However, there are three devices involved here. Two phones (soft or hard) and the VoIP server. If all three devices are connected to different nodes, NAT or routing may be part of the issue.

From what you posted it sounds like we have similar hardware, two soft phones, two hard phones and RasPBX (I also have PBX in a flash installed on a virtual machine), if you can give me more details on how your equipment is connected I can try and re-create/troubleshoot the problem.

What firmware are you using with your XW devices?  The release notes of course continue to list the XW devices as incompatible and unsupported.

I acquired some 5.8 GHz devices last year before the XW situation became widely known, and I have not been able to purchase any old stock XM devices (although I didn't try extremely hard).

If there is beta or other software available I'd like to give it a go.

I've been a ham since '54, but am new to HSMM and need help!

I'm trying to get two routers going to use the N3FJM (?) Field Day software and cannot get Windows file sharing to work no matter what I do.

The routers work fine between each other.

I suspected that port forwarding had to be set up but was unsuccessful.

I read that SMB port 445   & TCP 139 needed to be set up.

The laptops share fine using the local WI-FI without the routers.

Any help greatly appreciated.

All meshies are welcome to join us at the Mesh Networks booth located in the south-east corner of the East Hall at the Dayton Hamvention.  We will have active 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz mesh networks inside Hara Arena, and 2.4 nodes covering the Flea Market.  It remains to be seen if our networks survive, given the presence of thousands of cell phones with active WiFi.

I'm Dennis, W6DQ, and will be presenting at this year's Maker Faire at "Not Your Grandpa's Ham Radio."  This is our fourth year with this group and it just keeps getting better each year!

I am curious if anyone from the forum will have a display or at least be attending the Faire?  Just a little background ... we think that the Maker Faire is the perfect opportunity to present Amateur Radio to a very open-minded community interested in new technologies.  As such, our group has been presenting various amateur microwave technologies in the past including narrowband radios (SSB) operating at up to 76 GHz.  We have members from the 50 MHz and Up Group, San Bernardino Microwave Society and the San Diego Microwave Group. Wireless and SDR are two of the hot topics in the community.

This year I am bringing along some BBHN hardware that I have set up as a demo.  I think this is a great way to get the Maker Faire gear-heads into ham radio.  We'll also have demos on Software Defined Radio, some Arduino-based projects and some student projects from UC Davis.

At some point, it might be worthwhile to see if it is possible to extend our network outside of our booth.  You can contact me via email: w6dq@arrl.net   I would love to hear from anyone attending!

Over two years ago I bought two wrt54gl's  V1.1 and at the time installed the mesh software. I played with it locally and as I remember things worked. I got disinterested as I was not able to find or initiate any local activity. So the wrt54's got stowed.

I got the bug again yesterday to try new software and I loaded the latest update to the wrt54's. All went well and they look good in setup. My problem is I cannot get good connects wireless between the two boxes. I might have a bad box but not sure how to determine that. The funny thing is it does not matter if they are side by side, 20 feet LOS or on different floors of the house the LQ numbers vary all over the place from nothing to 30%. I tried different channels but no change. Power is max.

It almost seems like it is a data problem rather than RF level with distance not making a difference. I can get the IP address of the other node and once I actually got the domain name in the mesh status display.

Any ideas on this?

Just setting up some new nodes. This is first experience trying MESH. I successfully set up a WRT54GSv.1.1 then went to the V.4 unit and the firmware update did not take got the failure message at end. I was using the v.4 bin file for the v.4 unit, which is a separate download than that for the 1.1 unit.

Now I cannot communicate to the router using the Linksys program OR using the localnode:8080 either.

I am using a windows XP laptop connected to the router with ethernet cable to lan port. After researching,

I opened CMD and did ipconfig. It finds the router at 169.254.217.108 and subnet mask of 255.255.0.0

I ran ping and it sent 4 and received 4 0% failure and the ttl=128

I have tried tftp -i 169.254.217.108 PUT code.bin code.bin and before doing this had changed and moved the v.4 bin file to the correct folder and named it code.

when I hit enter with that command I get instant message of Timeout occurred.

Suggestions on how to talk to the router, and get the firmware installed? I am lost at this point.
