I would be very interested in the Polycom info you have Paul I just found 4 of them on Kijiji and I am configuring the Pi shortly.
Cheers Mike
[KF5JIM 2013-11-24- 11:18:48]: I am glad you found it useful. I do agree the Cisco (and Polycom) phones are a pain to figure out how to configure, but once you have one configured, the other ones are much less difficult to do. I do have a video made on how to configure the Cisco 79xx phones along with the configuration files. I also have documentation, firmware files, and configuration files on configuring the Polycom phones too. Once these are uploaded to the website, I will make a note of it here. And also, 2M voice may be easier, but where's the fun in that? :P

How we used HSMM-MESH™
Topic :
Enviromental monitoring.
Hi, Being a newbie in the network field the answer may seam obvious to all, but I'll post it any way. I am 1/5 into the recomended book, so I may find my answer there, but as always I want the project to get up and running as fast as possible
I am building a remote node high in the mountains, being run by a battery and a solar power. I bought a Terracom TCW122B-CM controller to monitor the battery status and temperatures on the node. I can access this fine on a wired ethernet at home, and over regular wifi connected to the ethernet but under testing with 2 x mesh nodes in the shop, I cannot get an answer from the controller. I have tried to ping it with out luck. It has the address 192.168.1.2 which for some reason I cannot reach over MESH. I hope someone can help me here. 73 Glen LA1ZUA

Great video Paul, so far I have installed asterisk on the PI, and all seams to work as expected. One thing is that with me the links on the status page are not visiable, its not a problem so far if I just type the URL I get to free PBX.
I hope you post the video of the Cisco config as I just ordered and they are shipped 4 Cisco SPA502G

YES (to both questions) We are doing that right now on several stations. At my personal QTH, I have a dish on one and an omni on another (see Menu-APPLICATIONS-Towercam over mesh for pictures). At a hospital, we have 2 nodes, one with an omni and dish, the other node with 2 dishes, tied together via CAT5 LAN to LAN. Plans are to possibly add a 3rd node for 2 more dishes to reach additional destinations. Happy Meshing! KTF

Paul,
Videos demonstrating how to setup a Cisco would be a great improvement in the MESH community!! Especially if you have docs, firmware and config files to boot!!! Would save a lot of headaches..
Agreed on 2-Meters.. Easy.. But no challenge.. The hobby is build on experimenting.

I too used KF5JIM's Youtube video for setting up my Raspberry Pi/Asterisk. I had softphones working quickly between nodes. BUT! I have one Cisco 7962 with is always difficult getting configured in a SIP enviroment. I had to configure my "base" BBHN node where a TFTP Server (RPi) was so the 7962 could download it's configuration information from. (Yeah Cisco phones are difficult, but it was free.)
So now my "base" BBHN node has a RPi/Asterisk server next to it. My 7962 is also on my "base" BBHN node and working great!!
My "field" laptops have softphones and can connect to my "base" RPi/Asterisk node. Everything works great!!!
What a weekend project.. 2-Meter voice is way easier.. Just saying..
Good luck to all!!

Bricked WRT54G what should I do?
I tried to short the pins, and will have to try it again I didn't leave it up long enough. Will it ping right away or after the 5 minutes?
I tired a lot of these some months back but never had a real reason to get this up and going now I do :)
Thanks again.
[KF5JIM 2013-11-24- 05:27:19]: Chances are you did not corrupt the bootloader, as that is hard to do. The easier of the three (CFE, NVRAM, and Kernel) is to corrupt the nvram on the flash chip. A simple shorting of the two respective pins and TFTPing the stock linksys firmware back to the device should solve your problems. Also, remember to leave the device powered on for ~5 minutes after flashing to allow it to fully boot up and do it's thing. Only use JTAG if all else fails. |

broadcast / multicast over the MESH
I have also only read the RFC about multicast over OLSR and I am not sure if it is already implemented in olsrd plugin.
I haven't been working with APRS myself, but AFAIK if you are running APRS on the router itself, it will happily broadcast and re-broadcast APRS messages into wireless segment. And if the neighbouring node is also running APRS, they will hear each other and start talking.
Solution with the tunnels I proposed yesterday is for the case when you must cross several HSMM-only hops to reach your APRS partner or if you don't want to run APRS daemon on the node itself.
BTW, I can see it useful to have APRS relay as a part of HSMM distro. Even if you don't do APRS yourself, having APRS on your node will let you relay someone else's information. And Kristoff if you are into APRS over HSMM, maybe you could package it into a HSMM-MESH compatible plugin so everyone could benefit? |

Bricked WRT54G what should I do?
I had a bricked 45G and tried all the non-JTAG solutions. Nothing worked. I bought a JTAG cable (yea, yea - it was cheap and I was lazy) and got it to the point where I could at least ping the unit. However, I could never get a TFTP of the stock linksys firmware to load. I eventually used the JTAG to load a micro version of OpenWRT. It took 2 hours to do the write but it worked. With OpenWRT installed I was then able to flash the BBHN firmware. It was a pain, but it was gratifying to bring the unit back from the dead. |

Looks like I'm going to have to make a jtag cable to do it. tried some of the other techniques and didn't get it to work. From what I can tell it has a bad bootloader. |

Bricked WRT54G what should I do?
Howdy,
Sometime ago before I recently became a amateur radio operator I had a WRT54G. I tried to flash it to DDWRT, but was never successful. I believe that I bricked the unit that I have. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with un-bricking them?
Thanks, KK4URZ

Hi,
Thx!
Do you have any more information on the support for multicast over OLSR. RFC3626 only mentions it very briefly and only says it can be added to the protocol later.
I don't know if setting up VPNs is needed here as actually defeats the actual goal of having an ad-hoc unstructured meshed network.
As APRS is a service at a relative low bitrate, perhaps it would be an option to look for some kind of "flooding" service, where you just flood user-data to all OLSR-nodes, which then broadcast (or multicast) it on their local non-OLSR interfaces.
I'll look into the RFC if there is anything in the protocol that makes this possible.
