Hi Andre,
Can more tel me about CAL files ??? where I can find this. I will try to check power output on channels below 2400 Mhz. When devices are located not big far all working OK.

[K6AH 2015-01-24- 05:38:05]: We have seen write-ups similar to your approach, but no one has been able, yet, to show power output that hasn't been compromised by the manufacturer's calibration data (contained in CAL files). We would be eager to hear that you have unlocked the mysteries of these CAL files and to see you confirm the power output of the Nanostation M2 on the 247-255 channels.

Hi Andre,
Yes I know, but I do not have the appropriate equipment to measure it. Today I managed to change the ath5k driver and thanks to this old UBNT NS2 working well with 802.11s mesh. Attach a screenshot where a small network operates 802.11s, two devices m2 and one ns2. Perhaps it 802.11s will be a better choice for me instead of OLSR, for this reason we will be able to use the NS2
I have try modify iw tools to display correct bandwidth channel, in current version iw-3.15 wehre I have use bandwidth 5 Mhz is displayed not correct

Nice work Waldek... you have our attention. But there is another challenge we must overcome. The Ubiquiti hardware is "tuned" by calibration data that is specific to each device. This optimizes a device for the frequencies intended and brings the device into the manufacturer's published specifications. We have seen write-ups similar to your approach, but no one has been able, yet, to show power output that hasn't been compromised by the manufacturer's calibration data (contained in CAL files). We would be eager to hear that you have unlocked the mysteries of these CAL files and to see you confirm the power output of the Nanostation M2 on the 247-255 channels. If this can be overcome, then your technique offers us enormous promise... particularly in the 3.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands. Thanks, Andre, K6AH

Thoughts on point to point setup
Is it bad that what I noticed first is "that looks like an airport just west of the middle of the path" and my first thought is "I wonder what the bounce propagation will be like"' (I'd have to look closer later with the charts and actual distance from airport and signal height at that point but on a serious side that might prove to be a very interesting link long term) if you do construct it I would be curious if you actually see decreases in signals from the airport or if your high/low enough to be out of the landing pattern, and if it does whom else sees a rare beacon from you on the splatter (a node down here has been known to hear a nose 40+ miles away every now and then for a packet or two when conditions are just right, would never be useable as a reliable link but it's still interesting to see that nodes IP address show up in the screen) |

Remove MESH firmware to install other firmware
Scott, KD4SIR, you are DA MAN! This procedure you documented worked perfectly. I had a router I luckily recovered from BRICK (a whole other story) so I have used it to test several upgrades/downgrades/backgrades, all have worked perfectly. The trick about loading Tomato as an interim firmware so you could then reload other .BIN files was a stroke of genius. A bit cumbersome, but much easier than the alternatives I think. I've taken the router from BBHN 3.0.0 to Tomato to original Linksys, back to BBHN 1.0.0 then back up to BBHN 3.0.0. All seemed to work well and no problems at all. Thanks for this very helpful post.

Welcome Houston area meshers!
Hi, I'm in the North Katy area and am wondering if there are any nodes active around here that are not listed on the map? It seems right now the closest node mapped is in Spring.
I am certainly interested in setting up a node at my house. Thanks, ke5rvv

Sounds like it might be a display bug of some sort. If you could run "telnet localnode 2006" and pass me the output along with a copy of the contents of /var/run/hosts_olsr I can run it through the code and watch what is happening and add it to a ticket to get fixed.

Attached is the Radio Mobile link prediction at 2.4 GHz. Looks feasible with a UBNT MIMO device with at least 1/2 watt (27dBm) of transmit power and 16 dBi antennas. Note that this is modelled at 24 dBm because MIMO splits the power in half for each V/H polarizations. That leaves you with 17.5 dB of fade margin if neither end is in a noisy environment (down around -95db)… although this looks like a highly populated area, so 2.4 is probably not your best band choice. You should probably consider 5.8 GHz or 900 MHz.

Thoughts on point to point setup
I am considering a point to point link to my RC flying field for a camera and weather info over a path of about 15 miles line of site. The contour on Google earth looks clear. If someone wants to look the two endpoints are 34 degrees 09' 16.02" N by 117 degrees 37' 13.15" W to 33 degrees 57' 22.17" N by 117 degrees 30' 23.72" W. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. N5JXO-Tower node back on the air
Hey Fred! Good to see you on here!
We put up a mesh node out here in Chappell Hill in Washington county and am in the process of getting some guys fired up about the mesh. A couple have played with some ATV on IP cameras here in the shack after the local net.
Here's my mesh node with lots of goodies - http://n5mbm.endoftheinternet.org:8080/cgi-bin/mesh And my webserver -http://www.n5mbm.net Jan and I wanted to say Howdy! :) Been having any luck with the Mesh stuff? I am anxiously awaiting the tunneling scripts release! We have way too many HILLS out here!

Help understanding an entry on the mesh status page
Running 3.0.0. On my local mesh status page, under remote-nodes, I see the following entries:
WB6TAE-2 |
|
7.27 |
|
|
dtdlink.WB6TAE-2.local.mesh |
|
7.27 |
|
The problem is, wb6tae-2 is a stand-alone NanoStation-M2. I.e. the node is a mile from me and it is connected to nothing, other than the PoE power supply (and the power supply has nothing plugged into the LAN port). I can only access the node through a neighbor. So, any ideas why I am seeing a dtdlink for this node. BTW, the dtdlink is not always displayed, seems to come and go. |

As usual, there was a quick, and acceptable work-around. I just created a web page listing the local servies, in whatever url format I want, and advertise that page as a "service." |

This is exciting to see... It is something that could be utilized out here in our county because we have so many hills to contend with between users!
Anxiously awaiting a release!
