If it already has DD-WRT on it, you can go into its firmware update and flash it to HSMM-Mesh without too much trouble. (usually easier than flashing in Lynksys')

I am wanting to take one in the rv,But do I give up wrt in leiu of mesh?  thanks all john w5jmw

I  think a multi directional antenna is also a good option for getting good signal. Because this multi directional antenna works to transmit signals from multiple directions.

Would you mind a screen shot of how you have it set up? I'm trying to connect my Node 1 to my Node 2. Not sure how to set up a direct link though. Thanks!

Excellent, in the meantime is there a good way of linking nodes via ethernet, say over a pair of VPN routers?

I have an option to buy one of these. Good for HSMM? This one is a bit different than the other T-Mobile router thats good.

This forum is run by the hsmmmesh.org guys. I just got thdm to create a section for us. =) The icon is a "dancing evil banana", and he cracks me up! I would like to see all of us on the google map so that we can coordinate connectivity tests, and figure out the best way for all of us to interconnect. As this gets more popular in our area we will have an easier time of it, but for now, we'll have to use dedicated, high-gain antennas. I would like to propose we try circularly polarized, high-gain antennas for this. Another member here linked to an excellent construction website for a super cheap and robust antenna tnat looks like it would do the trick. No matter the antenna choice, I would like to propose that we link up on a local repeater one weekend here, and take turns tryong to link up with eachother. We can use the repeater to report link state, etc, and get a lot done in one day, with a number of others all at once. What do you guys think of these suggestions? - Mike

At this time the tunnels are purely experimental and not ready for general consumption.  OLSR is very unstable when the tunnel is active.  Long running nodes have had several thousand olsr restarts.  We have new olsr code to try and new ways of tunneling to test.  We will be sure to let everyone know when the situation improves.

I, too, have a 12 bdi antenna, but I haven't checked its range from a high vantage point yet. Do you have any field experience with its range at hight, say, from you roof/tower, etc? A few of us are about 3 miles apart. It appears plausible to link with two 12 dbi's, one at each end.

I came across this article describing using virtual tunnels with HSMM-MESH being under development, however I haven't been able find any current information on the status.

Is there a way to do this with 0.4.3 or are we still in the thick of development?

Got my HSMM-MESH node up and running. Indoors right now, but I'll be moving it to the roof with high-gain antennas for better range down the road.

No advertised services right now, however I will be adding a Raspberry Pi running a D-RATS reflector and a TeamSpeak 3 server. I'll also be adding a webcam eventually as well.

Welcome, Jim! What does your setup look like? Do you have an external antenna? Have you connected two or more nodes together? This group's just forming up, so it would be nice to hear what setup and connectivity everyone has. - Mike KA9CQL

Yes it will! I have two of the WRT54G-TM's. However, you must follow each step in the 4th post in the link below in order to get HSMM-MESH to work on this router.

Can the 2.4GHz models of these 800mw devices be networked into the Ham HSMM-MESH?

I am told that they may be available for $75. each.

Here is the specific device to which he referred (there may be others):

http://www.wifi-stock.com/details/bullet2hp.html

Here is the manufacturer's wite:

I gather that they are usually used to provide wireless Internet in apartment complexes, mobile home parks, rv parks, etc.

WDYT?

EDIT:  There is a very interesting discussion of a wide variety of devices, including Atheros, WRT54GL,

MFI-UBIQUITI Devices and more here:

Greetings!

We are just getting started setting up an HSMM-MESH network in the High Desert (e.g. Victorville, Adelanto, Hesperia) and surrounding areas.

If you would like to join in the network, or just this conversation, please introduce yourself to the group here.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing your HSMM-MESH node on the Map!
