Only 1 nodes needs asterisk on it. On the other ends, you need to forward some ports to the VoIP phone. Take a look at the posts here for more info: http://hsmm-mesh.org/hsmm-mesh-forums/view-postlist/forum-9-voip/topic-284-asterisk-running-natively-on-hsmm-mesh-node.html?start=20

Last weekend a group of us took a trip up to the Lake Mountain repeater site on the West side of Utah Lake. This is the same site where we're proposing to permanently mount a mesh node once we've received the proper authorizations. I took along a Mesh node and a 24dbi parabolic antenna. We successfully connected to and accessed the node located at my QTH (Pleasant Grove) with a similar antenna. The nodes were a total of 11.86 miles apart according to google earth. Both nodes were running stock equipment with no modifications with the exception of the parabolic antennas. This test is very encouraging. FYI This site also provides excellent line-of-site across the point-of-the-mountain into South Jordan/Sandy area, as well as into South Provo. I'll post more info once we get the node permanently installed.

yes, Im extremly interested in this as well. How were you able to get the multiple Nodes to run asterisk and talk to eachother? THIS would be a great feat for what I think is an already great system.

Topic : Toronto / York Region Introduction

Hi John, we've talked once or twice on the .350 machine. We managed to put together a practical deployment of some mesh gear and applications for the York Region Emergency Preparedness Fair (at York HQ in Newmarket). We had some IP cameras and some Raspberry Pi's (w/USB cams and other stuff) and we were able to make links around and do a couple of double hops. I believe all, or most, of our Mesh routers had external high gain antennas. One had a "refurbished" satellite dish and we also had a amplifier on another....speeds were fairly good considering the streaming we were doing. We did have a java-based chat client running, but I've played a bit with D-Rats (DStar type software that will run over IP and let you exchange files, chat and do email as well as display on a map (kinda need internet to fill in that data though). So long as a mesh router was able to see another, you were always able to link to them, even if they weren't your direct neighbor....exactly how it's supposed to work. It was good to see in practice! I believe there is an asterisk version for the Raspberry Pi...but there's also LinPhone (linux phone voip) that I'd like to test. Ultimately, line of site is the single limiting factor. A few of us are going to try for some long distance shots....but I'm in the bottom of Bradford (I really do mean the bottom!), so I don't expect anyone to link to. You are more than welcome to join in the conversation. You can head over to the YRARC.org website and find the special interests page, or join the YRARC yahoo group (need to be a paid member for that one). I'm hoping either this forum will be a good place to exchange info, or perhaps another medium.... My email is my call @ gmail.com Cheers Steve VA3SRV

I got my antenna a few days ago, realized the connector wasn't correct, ordered an adapter, and now I have everything but the enclosure. I will pick up an enclosure this weekend and hopefully in the midst of the 902 and up contest, Ill get everything put together and up in the air on Sunday. is there anyone beaming down into the spanish fork area. I am north, and little west of the windmills. I hoping to pick up something. Jake Kd7vea

Topic : IRC File Transfer

Please help me understand, I am an IRC noobe. I have installed IRC on one of my mesh nodes and chat is working fine, but when I try to do a file transfer using /DCC SEND , all I get is "DCC Unknown command". Is there some other way to do file transfers with IRC? I am using leafChat as a client.

If you look under Applications, I did it.

Basically, I used ser2net on the node, Perle TruePort on a Windoze box (serial to IP driver), then tell Ham Radio Deluxe to use that serial port.

For Audio, I basically built a phone patch with an ATA adapter on it at the rig, tied to my Asterisk system, for the audio. I call that extension and it auto-answers and voila... full duplex audio.

HRD has a TX button, so I could TX/ RX, control the rig completely, and have voice.

Really like the HamChat idea. I had played ith this idea, but gave up and installed an IRC server. But I still like the idea of a simple chat interface that requires nothing additional like config fields or client software. Installed it on my node and works great. Made the time stap modification per K1NDT but I used substr() to limit it only to the time. Also changed it to a gray which I liked better than purple. But that's just me! Also modified the node's status page with a link directly to the hamchat script so users could just click and not have to type in the long-form address. I placed it between the help link and the refresh button.

Topic : Inter-linking Asterisk

Each Asterisk node will have numbers / extensions assigned.

To access N7WWK-NODE3 from 3CX on my android or Windows machine, or Grandstream 2000 Phone

My android set up 3CX

Name = N7WWK-NODE3

Display Name = N7WWK-NODE3

User = 67995 [note is n7wwk]

ID = 67995

Password = password

Local PBX IP = 10.16.157.189

PBX Port = 5060

So any node on the system with Local PBX IP = 10.16.157.189 and an extension on the system will ring my number.

Grand Stream 2000 with direct connection to node's wan port.

User = 6000

ID = 6000

Local PBX IP = 10.16.157.189

PBX Port = 5606

Will ring through

2 Nodes with asterisk will each have separate extensions, I see no way to combine all the extensions accept buy the WIFI 10. IP address.

Currently our local setup has the Grand Stream phone at the command location, it is 2 line phone. So this will allow for 2 configurations, and separate WIFI 10. IP's. Until we secure more Network wired phones. Possible with ATA adapters, if 2 line. With the Grand Stream Phone it is possible to transfer call from line 1 to line 2.

Not sure if 3CX will allow multiple configurations, like 2 numbers with different IP address.

KI4WQF-NODE1

10.209.143.140

Has 1012 / 1015 extensions assigned [Located at Public Transportation Bus Garage]

N7WWK-NODE3

10.16.157.189 [To be Located at Putnam CO FL. EOC]

We used this setup recently during Operation RADAR II Drill. All worked fairly well.

Do you have any URL's to reference this kind of setup? (examples, etc)

I would love to setup my 2nd USB node with *,  to talk to my 1st one that has * loaded and all the extensions assigned.

That way when I take my 2nd node out to presentations, etc, (and not have to break down my main node), if I get a tunnel or something back to my main mesh, it will handle the traffic locally without having to have a second full setup.

Thanks

KTF

I ahve been doing some reading, and the idea I have goes along with one box referencing the call address list from other connected box's. So no one box will be responcible for ALL of the address routing, each will be working its own list of IP's and routing to the appropriate box to connect the call.

If Astersisk is installed on a node any one logged in to the 10. ip address(wifi) can access the system. This works buy either iphone android, or windows 3CX is good choice for software. you can also plug in regular IP phone like Grand Stream directly into the router.

We have in our area 2 gs routers with Asterisk so you have 2 seperate systems, and different 10. IP address. It can become very easy to over load the small box with to many numbers on  VOIP. So be careful.

Good.  I think I ran into a WRT-54G-RG in my shopping at one time.  It would be good to have a well documented process to flash them.

Due to the WRT54G-RG firmware being custom, attempting to install the WRT54G firmware from DDWRT or OpenWRT causes a failure. However, there is a process wich I am in the process of documenting to post up here. Its not a complicated process, how ever it does involve flashing 3 diferent firmwares to the Router for it to be compatable with the HSMM-MESH firmware. I started documenting the process last night, and should be finished tonight. I currently have 3 already flashed and running.

Was there something different about the flashing process, or do you just install the correct 54gs .bin file?

If they're the standard GSv3 hardware, they're particularly useful because they have more memory and you can load a lot more stuff on them.

I am VERY much watching this. I Myself have been tinkering with HSMM-MESH for the last few months, and would like to see just what all we can get it to do...

Internet Linking?

Asterisk Linking?

Actual TX/RX accross the imediate mesh (Within say 10 node Jumps??)

Topic : Inter-linking Asterisk

Im quasi familiar with Asterisk, but Im wondering...

If we are able to get Asterisk installed as a module on the Nodes, can the modules from each node contact eachother and query their DB's? So as to create an Asterisk Net? so that Say I want to call VA3SDF, I pick up my IP phone, Dial VA3SDF-1 and the IP Phone on his end will ring?

Id suggest using the Node ID as the base number, and a post fix for each individual ip phone / sip phone associated with that node's asterisk module. And say a # as the post fix to ring ALL phones associated with the node.

Topic : WRT54GS v3.0 Pre Modified

I have recently come across a large quantity of BRAND NEW WRT54GS v3.0's. They were a version re-released by Cisco for Rogers TalkSpot. They were deemed unusable for what ever reason. After a few hours I have gotten the process to re-flash them with the HSMM-MESH software.

I’ve tested one for myself, and its working like a charm. So… I would like to offer these to the members here, for what is way cheaper then buying the WRT54GS It’s self. I’m not trying to make any money on these, I would like to further the HSMM-MESH development and implementation. Included will be all of the original paperwork for the router, its box, the cabling, and wall wart.

I am working on a 2nd Version to have the modification for POE, as well as a POE injector to be included. More to come on that...

Does anyone have any interest? I am located near Brantford Ontario, but I work In Toronto near Sheppard and The Allen.
