Have you tried adding the names you want to use to /etc/hosts or /etc/hosts.user?

There is some info on the device in the OpenWRT wiki: http://wiki.openwrt.org/oldwiki/OpenWrtDocs/Hardware/Linksys/WRT300N If holding the rest button for 10-15 seconds while applying power to the router doesn't get it booting up, you may have to go the serial console route to see what may be happening in RedBoot. I see an ID of the connector location in the wiki page, but the pinout listing doesn't specify if it is relative to pin1. Might need to probe to identify at least VCC and GND to be sure. The port is at TTL levels so you'll need an adapter cable. 73-KY9K/Brian

Topic : WRT-300N V1.1 Bricked??

Hi this is my first attempt at making a mesh node and have run into trouble. I had DDWRT on the router and flashed it to the hsmm-mesh-0.4.3wrt300n_v1.bin and I have lost connectivity with the lan ports to my pc. Also all the front lights are now lit up steady. The router is a WRT-300N v1.1

Is there a way out of this?

Topic : DNSMasq in HSMM-MESH

Hello I would want to know if this would be possible with HSMM-MESH.

If hosting a website in my local network can be accessible to other nodes users ?

  • I have DNS pointing to something that is hosted on my home network. For example, you may have a security camera that has a domain attached to it (e.g. camera.example.com), and it’s accessed from both on and off your network. Using DNSMasq on your router you can make the domain, camera.example.com, point to the internal IP of the camera so that anyone who accesses that camera from within your network won’t have to rely on external DNS getting resolved.
  • Testing a new version of my own website, but want to make sure it will work fine with the live domain. Can DNSMasq work on my node.
  • I want to create DNS for a site that is accessible using only a single word, such as intranet. Companies do this kind of thing all the time where an internal-only website can be reached without needing or wanting a publicly-accessible URL. But I want it to be accessible to other nodes users.

How can I accomplish the above bullet points ?

Thanks,

Chris

Pulled out the routers last night to do some tinkering after not doing anything

for a few months.

Installed Linphone on both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS laptops and then opened the

ports that Linphone needed.

Got that working along with port 80 access to each laptop.

Have no idea about video using Linphone yet. No cameras for the laptops.

Now to figure out what else I want to try, maybe teamspeak?

Yes, if localnode:8080 doesnt work, then try the IP direct.

If that DOES work, then try http://localnode.austin.tx.us.mesh:8080

If that (or NODENAME.austin.,tx.us.mesh) works, then you will need to add the DNS suffix to your windows networking (thew austin.tx.us.mesh) to get everything to jive every time.

It shouldnt affect any regular LAN/internet operations for the PC.

I don't have a bin - I basically got olsrd (with the secure module) and dnsmask running, then started trying to adapt some of the busybox custom web stuff so the node looks similar. So it's not really an HSMM-MESH-DEV node, per se, but it will route traffic just fine. Since there's really no one nearby to node up with, and since it's a dev version anyway, I haven't pursued it much lately. Once I get done playing with the Rubidium GPSDO and ntp I may come back to it.

Did you try http://172.27.0.1:8080 in the browser instead of http://localnode:8080 ? I just set one up for the first time, and "localnode" didn't resolve for "localnode:8080" (I didn't go through the windows steps to add the DNS search path), but 172.27.0.1:8080 worked (as expected) just fine.

Topic : Posting from HTC EVO 4GLTE

I have been experimenting with the use of a non activated Android smart phone that is connected to my HSMM MESH network through a wifi router. When I plug my DSL internet into the the mesh network, I can sucessfully make and receive phone calls by using an internet phone number. My most recent trial has been to install an Android application called The Serval Mesh into 2 Android phones and attempt to connect these phones through my HSMM MESH. The Serval Mesh works well without internet, but I have not been able to connect it through HSMM MESH. Has anyone experimented with The Serval Mesh who can provide me with suggestions? The Serval Mesh works well with either VOIP or texting. The phones can be used in a full duplex voice connection without any infrastructure. Surely there is a way to use this through HSMM MESH. Any suggestions? I can only post through a quick reply so this post should be under VOIP.

Thanks for the hint on the refurbs!! Just received my brand new WRT54GL from Amazon.com today - had so much fun with it so far, ordered up 2 more refurbs from Linksys.

Soon, *very* soon, Casper, WY will be on the map.

Arghhh! The forum settings are messed-up -- if I don't Preview it deletes my text and flashes an error message across the top. Sigh. Thanks for your encouraging post. We were only able to test in Austin & due to an unplanned change of hotels were stuck in a fringe location with a peaked-metal covered roof outside the window -- no signals. Sigh. I have requested permission to test a pair of HSMM-Mesh routers at the SET this Saturday in Statesboro, GA.

It looks like it's more work than what it's worth at this point in time.  I have not done it yet, but from first looks and thinking about it, trying to interface a newer build of openwrt with an older build seems like it can create problems.

My unofficial opinion would be to wait until a newer version of HSMM-MESH is released that runs off of the Backfire or (if we can get there) Attitude Adjustment release.  I'm not saying that it cannot be done, it just looks like it's still in the development stages.

I have done that.

I was able to log in and put my call sign in after the initial upgrade.

After reboot with my call sight "installed" I can no longer log in.

I have reset my network adaptor several times, and reset the router several times.

The computer sees it, but http://localnode:8080 gives a timeout on 3 different browsers on 2 different computers.

Please see:

Do you have a .bin file already put together for this? I just ordered a pi and should get it in a couple days. I am going to be leaning on my close fellow ham/Linux nerds to help me get my nodes up and working, hopefully I'll peak thier interest into setting up one also since there is no HSMM-MESH established in Broward County, FL.

73 to all,

I don't see how I can add a new Geographical area to the Board. Perhaps it has to be done by the Board owner? If so, please start a new section for "York Region" of Toronto, Ontario.

York Region Amateur Radio Club and many of it's members are now actively working on a Mesh for the York Region.

Thanks

I have 2 WRT54GL's, both v1.1.

Both have good flashes of HSMM.

I was able to access both initially after "upgrade" and input my call sign, at which time I saved changes, and they rebooted.

I now am unable to access either one from two different computers and 3 different browsers.

Any thoughts?

Jim, I was reading up on Raspberry pi and stubled across this: http://www.zoobab.com/raspberry-pi-openwrt Is it quite possible (I'm a Linux illiterate) that there might be a way to set up an emulated router/HSMM-MESH node by modifying OpenWRT and adding a b/g wi/fi usb stick? With 256mb of RAM, a 700Mhz Broadcom chip and unlimited access to storage with the extra SD and 2nd USB ports. It would certainly be One hell of a node!! Gary KI4WPI Tamarac, FL
