Sorry about that. This should work better. I did try it and it went there. The other got truncated somewhere along the line.

A few thoughts on this:
1. use a router that can be managed such as RB750 (Mikrotik) or netgear.
2. use a router that provides POE such as RB2011 and also is configurable
3. Use a part15 device for local access to the BBHN such as a wrt54g? that is not suitable for BBHN but will bridge the the IP for the radio's
4. the two radio.s will mesh, so you really only need to access the ethernet on one of the radio's in use. |

How do you connect two or more co-located nodes via Ethernet cable
Looking for information on how to connect two or more nodes via Ethernet cable when they are co-located at one site to minimize RF loading, i.e. more broadcast messages to find and check on nodes and maybe speed up the connections between the co-located nodes. Using the Ubiquiti devices, which are single antenna devices, when you need an Omni for local and directional for the distance nodes at one location is going to be a different setup as well. Since the two antennas should not be able to see each, other for one reason is de-sensing issues The WRT54G routers which have built-in network switches which the Ubiquit devices don't, so how would that be accomplished as well or would it be different? All of this is to minimize the hops when they are right next to each other and keep the bandwidth up as much as possible.
What needs to be changed in the olsrd.conf and how to save the file to make this happen in version 1.x

Sorry about taking so look to reply. Works a mad house and been sick doesn't help either. I tried a new cat5 cable first and still running into the same problem only different now is every so often when I have explorer try to fix problem or connection it gives me connectivity issue with the new cat5 cable. I can ping the gateway and it tx/rx in 1ms with no lost packets I attached a notepad txt file showing what I get when I type in ipconfig command. The only thing I havnt tried is using putty and try to access that way. KF4pmy

These are industry standard enclosures we use everyday... ask someone in construction to look for one of these boxes on a jobsite??

Is there any use for a WAP54G (HW ver 3.1) on the MESH?? (Linksys Access point)
I got one given to me by one of the IT admins I visit every day and wondered if it would be able to be used as a kind of extra set of "ears"??

Found these on Ebay. Seemed reasonable and work fine with the WRT54G. Same size power connectors as the V2 and up. V1 didn't fit but that is 5VDC and personally won't be getting any more of those. Here is the URL.

Newbie - problems with Linksys WRL54GL
Hello friends,
I just installed bbhn-1.0.0 in my 3 Linksys WRL54GL.
2 of these had the Linksys software - And it works without problems.
The 3rd had the Tomato firmware before installing bbhn-1.0.0.
I do not know if it matters .. But after Installation of bbhn-1.0.0 There was no problems setting upp the nod wth my callsign. But after reboot, so I reach not http://localnode:8080/.
Running ipconfig /relase and ipconfig / renew gives me a new ip: 172.27.0.54 - Looks fine. Yes, I can ping the ip and it will resoponde the ping.
What more?
On a working WRT54GL the "Power" and "WLAN" diods lights
On my faulty WRT54GL: only "Power" diod lights
Any good ideas on how I awake the sleeping WRT54GL?

Link from N2TY repeater site? To where?
Hello all, The recent chatter regarding the support for Ubiquiti devices has rekindled my interest in some long distance links using BBHN. Having little mesh nodes at home and at work, hoping maybe someone will set another one up nearby is fun, but I'm starting to think a bit bigger.
Before I hassle the TARA board with requests to put gear up on the Troy water tower, I was wondering if anyone had any interest in establishing (or attempting to establish) a long distance link from that location, or if anyone had any suggestions or thoughts on what might be a short list of locations to consider. As an example, the specs for the airGrid unit put its range at 30km, which puts the Helderbergs/Thatcher Park just barely outside its range (but not so far that I wouldn't want to try!)... http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/datasheets/airgridm/airGrid_HP.pdf Any input or discussion on the matter would be welcome.
As a disclaimer, while I am on the TARA board, I haven't discussed this with anyone in an official capacity, so consider it a pipe dream at present.

ubiquiti bullet firmware that is coming out.
The release will require 32MB memory and 8MB flash. We will list all the tested devices with the release. It may work with minor inconveniences on other UBNT devices that meet the minimum memory requirements. We will evaluate these other devices as time permits and people are willing to describe their experiences.
The bottom line is... wait and try it on Feb 1st

Mark, thanks for the extra hits to the website ! :-) Saw the blurb in the E-letter this morning. Congrats and I wish you the best of luck when dealing with bureaucrats ! I get my hand at it tomorrow...lol
Ill be trying out the Focus thing soon, probably after the Big Bend 50K this weekend (we will have live streaming video from the middle of BB National Park on the front page starting either Friday or Saturday, and Ill be "the man behind the curtain"). It looks very interesting, and especially being a stand-alone app. 73 KTF

WRT54G antenna questions
Is there a tutorial on the functionality of the two antennas? I know you can split them via software but am not familiar with the specifics. I'm looking at having one of the antennas, on one unit, being a yagi and the other the omni. On others it will probably be a yagi for both. I am in a long valley, 13+ miles, and there are terrain issues. I have 6 units loaded with 1.0 and am accumulating the support hardware and cables etc.

I have a Nanostation M2. THe Nanostation "LOCO" M2 is listed as the one supported. From what I have been able to figure out on Ubiquity's site is the NS M2 is a higher powered version over the "loco"
Will this hardware be supported? Is it the same other than power?
Thanks |

Focus VideoPhone
Hi again Mark;
This is a follow on to my post from minutes ago. Forgot one thing. Instructions for use of the Focus phone say that the connection is made when the receiving end acknowledges the call. I haven't been running between them but if WA8ZLK-003 is calling WA8ZLK-002 does WA8ZLK -002 have to answer the call? I've been sitting on my duff waiting for a call ...haven't visited the called node to see what things look like at the called end of the hook-up. |
